The Bull's Roar (Version I)
Once upon a time, there was a poor old man and his only daughter, who was as wise as she was beautiful. Apart from their poverty, they had no faults and were respected by those around them. The old man would milk their only camel to provide food and transportation. Thanks to this, they lived without begging from anyone, content with what they had. One day, the young calf of the camel they were milking fell ill and died. Mourning for her calf, the camel stopped giving milk. Thus, the father and daughter, relying solely on camel milk for sustenance, found themselves completely without food or drink. Especially the old father, looking at his daughter's tearful face, felt deeply saddened with no way to help. Then, his wise daughter tried to comfort him, saying, "Father, why do you worry so much? There must be some good from God; let us be patient." Of course, no matter how much patience they had, it couldn't replace food! One day, the wise girl, having exhausted all options, spoke to her father: - "Father, since I was born a girl, even though my place is at your side, my spirit is free. Please give me your blessing and inform the people. Our camel should only bow before someone who can play a tune that makes her mourn for her calf. Whoever can impress her with their skill, please let them take me as their partner," she said. Her father did not disregard his daughter's words and announced it to the nearby area. Was there no one in the village skilled in music? Musicians began to flock from all around, hoping to win the beautiful girl. When the crowd had gathered, judges were appointed, and they began to evaluate the musicians' performances. Talented musicians played melodies that could move one's very soul. However, the camel, mourning for her calf, remained unmoved and stood there in silence. No tune or sorrow was left unplayed. As the musicians played their hearts out, one by one, they began to leave, having lost their confidence. The camel stood there, ignoring them as if they were nothing more than the buzz of a fly. Then, among the musicians, two were selected: an old man and a young one. The turn went to the old musician. He was said to be a master of his craft, and he sat down before the camel like a stake driven into the ground and said to the girl, "Well, my dear, roll up your sleeves and get ready!" Then, holding the two-stringed instrument close, as he played, it seemed as if the sound of the calf's cries could be heard from afar. The initial melody that caught attention gradually became clearer, and for a moment, it felt as if the calf itself had come fluttering in like a butterfly, full of life. The old musician, waiting for this moment, played even more passionately, alternating between different styles, and at one point, when he struck the strings, the instrument seemed to speak, "Go on, go on!" At that moment, the camel, which had been standing still all day, began to tremble, and all its veins relaxed, and its udder began to swell. The secret of the animal was known to its owner; the girl was the first to sense that the camel was yielding, and while raising the container, she squeezed the camel's udder tightly, preventing the milk from flowing out. The reason for this was that the girl's heart was with the young musician waiting for his turn. By squeezing the camel's udder, she was cleverly delaying the young man's turn. The old musician sensed this immediately and said, "Ah, although my tune is in harmony, my time has passed!" and he passed the turn to the young man. When the young man began to play the instrument, the girl released her grip, and the camel's udder began to flow freely, as if it would burst the sides of the container. At this moment, the young musician, aware of everything happening, felt a sense of pride and, wanting to express his feelings for the girl, played a tune called "I Burned and Lived." When the tune ended, the camel yielded completely, and the crowd erupted in joy. The judges then asked the old musician, "There should be no grievances or doubts in your judgment; we understood your tune was harmonious, but what did you mean by saying your time has passed?" The old musician replied, "What I meant was that my tune was what made the camel yield, but the girl's heart was with her equal, and she held back the milk that was flowing. If you want to know the truth of what I said, let the two of us play our tunes again and walk in opposite directions. Then you will see to whom this animal will follow, calling it 'my calf.'" This condition pleased the judges, and they decided to test the two musicians again. As he had said, the camel followed the old musician, sniffing at him and trailing behind. The girl covered her face in embarrassment, and the crowd was astonished. Then the returning old musician said, "Oh, my friends, even though I have aged today, seeing that my tune has not aged brings me joy. Let us not hesitate; as the saying goes, 'like attracts like,' let us wish happiness for the two young ones!" Thus, the poor old man and his daughter, along with the groom, lived together harmoniously, never lacking anything, and enjoyed a fulfilling life.
