Balzhynger (Version III)
Once, there was a wealthy man living by the shores of Markakol. He was known to be a tyrant who would not hesitate to deceive or forcefully take the swiftest horses he could find. One day, he heard a rumor that a poor man named Saldaman had a horse that no other horse in this world could match. The wealthy man became eager to obtain this horse by any means. He summoned Saldaman and asked him to bring the horse. Saldaman, sensing the wealthy man's intentions, replied, "It's just an ordinary horse that has been the fate of my poverty."
The wealthy man said to Saldaman:
– Circle the lake that spans six days' journey and return within the time it takes to cook meat. If you cannot return in that time, I will put a golden saddle on your horse and ride it myself; if you can return, I will give you a reward of one ninth of my wealth, – he promised.
Saldaman set off, trusting in his horse. The wealthy man, feeling pleased, entered his palace and, after some time, convinced himself that "even if wings were given, a horse could not reach before the meat was cooked." Just as he was about to order the meat to be prepared, news arrived that the horse was approaching from the field. Alarmed by this news, the wealthy man rushed outside to see the horse galloping with the speed of a flying bird. At that moment, the wealthy man, consumed by rage, sat down. However, he could not go back on his word and reluctantly gave Saldaman one ninth of his wealth. The melody known as "Balzhynger" is said to have originated from this story.
