Irtysh Wave
A group of Kazakh people who spend their days in livestock farming along the Irtysh River consider the fertile land a blessed abode and spend many years there. Due to the rich grass and abundant water along the Irtysh, they cannot move far away, spending their days in the summer pastures and wintering in the lowlands. The wintering and summer pastures are located on one side of the riverbank, while the winter settlement is on the opposite bank, with the Irtysh flowing between them. The Irtysh is a vast river with significant water flow. To cross from the winter settlement to the summer pastures, one must do so before the river swells; otherwise, it does not allow even small livestock or a mounted person to pass. Every year, the villages accustomed to migrating at the same time face unexpected difficulties. While the people are carefree, an early spring arrives, the snow in the valleys melts, and the river overflows, trapping the entire population without a crossing point, and they settle in the wintering area. Despite the limited grazing area, the winter pastures become insufficient, and the land does not bloom as desired; the livestock graze the green shoots to the ground.
Livestock cannot gain the necessary fattening even in summer. As if that were not enough, that winter is harsh, with heavy snowfall. Thus, the circumstances align, and many people lose a significant number of their livestock.
The people do not say that the loss of livestock and the inability to reach the summer pastures is due to their own carelessness. They say it is because of the Irtysh's waves. The white-capped waves of the Irtysh, which caused immense losses, are added to the lament.
