Foam splashed
One of the sultry hot days of summer. Thirsty from the heat, Kurmangazy encounters a village and turns the reins of his horse towards a white yurt pitched on the outskirts of the village. Approaching the outside of the yurt, he makes a sound to announce his presence. The village's herdsman, Zhiienaly, comes out and greets Kurmangazy. From his words, Kurmangazy realizes that this is the abode of the noble Adelek. - "I am thirsty, may I be allowed to come in for a drink?" he asks. Zhiienaly replies: - "Alright, let me go tell the lady," and when he re-enters the yurt, the lady sitting in the main room calls out: - "The master of the house is not here, you cannot enter!" After hearing this, Kurmangazy walks towards the poor thatched houses clustered on the western side of the village. He arrives at one house and thinks, "Even if they do not offer the main room of this village house, they might at least offer its shade," dismounts, and sits in the shade of the yurt. Although the house owner is poor, he welcomes the musician according to his means. After resting for a while, Kurmangazy decides to leave and steps outside, where he sees the daughters-in-law of a wealthy man returning from milking the mares. Each of them carries a bucket full of milk, frothing and spilling onto the ground from their swaying steps. Upon seeing this, Kurmangazy takes his dombra and begins to play a tune. The beautiful melody, singing like a nightingale, captivates both the house owner and the chattering women. When Kurmangazy finishes his tune, the house owner standing beside him asks: - "My guest, what tune was that you played?" - "Oh, dear brother! Even though they are drowning in wealth, they do not give a drop of water to those who ask, let alone milk. They prefer the milk and kumys to be spilled on the ground rather than consumed by people like you and me. That tune I played, called 'Foam Spilled,' mocks the foolish daughters-in-law of the wealthy man who are spilling milk on the ground," Kurmangazy replies.
