Four Discourses (Version II)
One year, Toka went in search of fertile land for grazing livestock and arrived at a lush area called Isen at the foot of the Imanak mountain. From that place, he marked the spot for the village to settle, had the young men dig a well, and told them, "Bring the people here, we will wait for you." Toka, who had his seven-year-old son with him, stayed behind at that spot. Toka took off his horse's bridle and let it graze, then spread his saddle on the grass and sat for a while, admiring the beautiful scenery of nature around him. After resting a bit, he picked up his dombra and began to play a tune. He became so engrossed in the music that he even forgot about his son who was nearby. After finishing the tune, he remembered his son and called for him, but the boy was nowhere to be seen. Toka searched frantically around, but when he couldn't find him, exhausted and parched, he went to the well to drink some water and saw his son floating on the surface. He pulled his son out of the well, laid him down where he had been sitting, and covered his face. Deeply saddened and grieving, Toka began to play a mournful tune on his feather-adorned yellow dombra. At that moment, the village also arrived and started to set up their homes in the new settlement. However, Toka did not say a word to anyone about his son's death, keeping it to himself. When asked, he replied: - He's just a playing child; my son must be tired, let him sleep. The people set up their homes and settled in. When they had slaughtered livestock, eaten dinner, and it seemed like everyone was getting ready to sleep, Toka picked up his dombra and began to play a mournful tune. Toka's family, familiar with his music, immediately sensed that this tune was new and had never been heard before. His wife asked: - This is a sorrowful tune that has never been played before; where did it come from? What calamity have you started? But Toka did not respond to them and continued to play. Understanding the meaning of the tune, Toka's wife began to cry: - You have ruined the only one. The dombra is crying, my only one. At that moment, Toka said: - Stop your crying! The people have just arrived at the new settlement and are rejoicing; do not disturb the village with loud cries in the night. The child has gone, he is gone. Crying will not bring him back. We cannot cry out loud now. Today is a day for crying only with the dombra. What I just played was my "Estirtu" tune. After finishing the "Estirtu" tune, Toka said, "Now what I will play is my 'Arnau' tune dedicated to my son," and he began to play another mournful tune. His wife, barely holding on until the end of the "Arnau" tune, said: - Bring me your dombra! My heart is burning; let me also play a lament for my foal. She took the dombra and played the "Zarlau" tune, and as the tune was finishing, she fainted. Hearing this, Toka's mother came in mourning and said: - Give me the dombra! Let me also lament for my grandchild. She began to play the "Zhoqtau" tune with deep emotion. Thus, Toka's "Tort Tolgau" tune came into existence.
