Aksholpan (Version I)
Mamen is said to have composed the "Aksholpan" melody when he heard a legendary tale passed down from ancestors to descendants of the past. It must have been the time of the Kalmyk, which pierced the side of the Kazakhs like a thorn. At that time, the famous Tole and Aiteke bi were still alive. One day, a conflict arose between the villages of the Great and Little Hordes, and a young man from the Little Horde was killed. After some time, the village of the Great Horde did not provide compensation, and the relatives of the deceased young man were in despair, lamenting, "The value of our fallen brother has gone unasked." This situation reached the ears of Aiteke bi of the Little Horde, and he said, "Enough, my kin, let there be no shadow among the people; I will go and reconcile." It must be true that "the voice of a just bi can be heard from a great distance," for one day news reached Tole bi of the Great Horde that "Aiteke bi is coming to claim compensation." Respect for the bi is respect for the people. Tole bi gathered his people, set up a special tent on the green grass, and welcomed Aiteke bi with honor. After Aiteke bi settled in and rested for a few days, when the moment was right, Tole bi said, "Yes, Aiteke, a traveler sees much, and one who sees much has much to say; speak on." Then Aiteke, as if waiting for this very moment, replied: "Oh, Toke, you are the elder who cares for the well-being of all Kazakhs; you are the collar of your people. It is true that one who has seen much has much to say. Let us share what we have seen. It is not necessary to speak of everything seen; what is important is to convey what we have understood. My understanding is that the guarantee of being a nation is to be familiar with the living and to support the dead." Tole bi, who always stood by the right words, expressed his gratitude: "Oh, Aiteke, are we not all of one shore, and our arms not in one sleeve?! We are ready for your service; if there are any excesses, we are also willing to address them. No one will strike your hand or block your path. If you have a sword, we will bow our necks; if you have an embrace, we will open our arms." Aiteke, pleased with the wise words of his elder bi, smiled and warmly concluded, "Bi elder, your words are a treasure; if it is your order, let the preparation be from us!" With this, the conversation ended. Those around Aiteke bi were left bewildered, not understanding anything. Then, at one moment when they went outside to stretch, one of those with Aiteke bi asked, "How is it that our matter has not been discussed?" To this, Aiteke bi replied: "Our matter has not only been discussed, but a solution has also been provided. Tole bi will give us a bride with a dowry." As it was said, Aiteke bi returned this time with the daughter of a respected man named Nazar from the Great Horde, whose name was Aksholpan, along with her dowry. Later, it is said that from this Aksholpan, the famous Otebas bi was born. Thus, hearing of such great deeds from the previous generation, Mamen was deeply moved and composed the "Aksholpan" melody.
