The bravery of Bäydibek
From the other side of the Alatau, the enemy's forces are advancing. The elders of the Jalayir are sending word to the surrounding people. Hearing this news, Baydibek Batyr gathers his troops and sets off from Karatau. The two sides meet at the Altın Emel ridge. First, they engage in single combat. A black horse like a camel carries a warrior into the arena. This is the Kalmyk hero Dode. He is met by Jalayir's hero Alshynbay. The two engage in a fierce fight. Alshynbay's sword is broken, and he perishes while struggling with Dode. Baydibek Batyr shouts:
– Who will come out next? The hero Shyktibai from the Naiman tribe rides his blue horse towards Dode. Another clash, another fight. Shyktibai also cannot withstand the fierce Dode and is severely wounded.
– Who else is there? – When asked, no one among the soldiers standing against the enemy dares to say, "I will go." After a while, a slender young man on a pony, trying to muster his courage, says:
– I would go, but I have no suitable horse to ride. – Baydibek Batyr replies:
– Ride my horse, – and he dismounts from his Akboz stallion, then taunts Dode:
– Well, hero, how do you want to fight with our boy? – Dode responds:
I am not a child to fight with a boy! Come yourself! – he bellows. Baydibek:
– If you want to come, come; I have been waiting for your words, – he mounts his Akboz stallion and confronts Dode. His soldiers pray, "Yes, God, may the spirits support us!" and cheer. The two first engage in swordplay. Although Dode's brute strength is superior, his skill is limited. He cannot withstand Baydibek's agile movements and soon finds himself covered in blood. Gathering all his strength, Dode prepares to use his spear. Baydibek also readies his spear. Since his youth, while tending horses, he had learned a habitual technique from the old horsemen – tying a noose made of rope to the tip of his spear, resembling a lasso. Now he intends to use this technique against Dode. Neither Dode nor the enemy side pays much attention to this; they do not take it seriously. The two charge back and forth, engaging in spear combat. At one moment, as Dode lunges at him, Baydibek throws the noose around Dode's neck like a deer and drags him along with his horse and gear. Dode drops his spear and struggles with both hands to free his neck from the noose. Baydibek Batyr's iron grip does not relent, and in no time, he flips Dode's bear-like body off his horse and drags it on the ground, then continues on his way. Thus, Dode, gasping for breath, surrenders in agony: Baydibek drives the enemy back, defeating them utterly.
