Round Mother (Version II)
While Bäydebek was away from the village, the Kyrgyz led by Akkoshkar took his horses. The overconfident enemies, after drinking from Domalaq Ana's dwelling, requested a horse as a donation from the livestock they had seized.
At that moment, Nūrila had placed her belt around the neck of the white-maned yellow stallion, they say. When the animal was adorned with our mother's belt, it stood still without moving and began to walk on the lead. After some time, Bäydebek's six sons, born from Sarybai, arrived in haste. They saw Domalaq Ana and asked from horseback:
– Hey, second wife, which way did the enemy who chased our horses go?
– My dear ones, dismount. The root of the horses is with us; it will come back on its own. Don't bother chasing after it. You will perish for nothing, – said Nūrila. The young men replied:
– Oh, this one is indeed an enemy; just look at what she is saying, – and the six sons rode off without looking back. After a while, Bäydebek himself arrived in haste and asked:
– Where did the enemy go? Domalaq Ana replied:
– Dear sir, do not trouble yourself chasing the enemy. Your livestock will return by morning without fail. Your six sons have disregarded my words. They are destined to perish for nothing. As our mother said, at dawn, a rumble will be heard as if the earth is shaking. The tied white-maned yellow stallion will neigh. When they looked, all the horses had returned. The livestock returned to the place where the white-maned yellow stallion was standing. But Sarybai's six sons lay dead on the ground.
