Hakim Ata
The true name of Hakim Ata is Suleiman. In his childhood, while going to school, he carried the Quran with respect, holding it from underneath instead of hanging it around his neck like other children. When leaving school, he would turn his face towards the school and his back towards home. One day, while sitting at the threshold of the Khoja Akhmet Yasawi mosque, he sees this boy and is pleased with his actions. The Khoja then seeks the consent of the boy's father and mother and takes Suleiman under his wing to teach him the Quran. After reaching the age of fifteen, he becomes a disciple of the Khoja. One day, Khidr (peace be upon him) comes to visit the Khoja. The Khoja sends the children to fetch some firewood for cooking. While they are bringing the firewood, it starts to rain heavily. All the firewood becomes soaked. Only Suleiman, having taken off his clothes to wrap the firewood, brings back dry wood. Because of this, the other firewood also catches fire. Khidr (peace be upon him) asks Suleiman why his firewood is dry. He explains the reason. Khidr is pleased with this answer and says to the boy, "From now on, your name shall be Hakim!" After that, he spits into his mouth. Suleiman's insides are filled with light. Khidr says, "Come on, don't hesitate, let the spiritual essence come forth!" From that moment on, Hakim Ata begins to recite several wisdoms and poems.
