Amir Timur the Visionary (Version I)
Once upon a time, there was a holy miracle worker in Bukhara-Sharif. He had a single son who grew up to be a man. One day, the king's guards caught the saint's son at a place where he had committed a bad deed and were going to take him to the king. They said, "First, let’s take him to the master himself and present him. After that, we will take him to the king; if we take him directly from here, not knowing the boy's character, he might curse us!" So they brought the boy to his grandfather. "Is what you did true?" the grandfather asked, and the boy did not deny it, admitting it. Then the saint said, "Leave him with me today. I will return him to you tomorrow!" and took him from the guards. After the guards left, the saint, in the time of Qutb, bowed his head down, made a supplication, and gathered all forty saints and miraculous beings. He said, "After this king dies, bring me those who are supporting and backing the candidates for the throne; I want to see them." It turned out that fifteen of the forty saints were supporting one of the king's sons, saying, "He is worthy to be king!" Fourteen were supporting the son of a judge, saying, "He is worthy to be king!" And the remaining eleven were supporting Amir Timur, saying, "He is worthy to be king!" This Amir Timur was a Kipchak from Samarkand, the son of a hero named Amir Taghay, and he was studying in Bukhara at that time. First, the fifteen brought the king's son alone and presented him to Qutb. Qutb said, "This is my only son, who has committed a bad deed and has admitted it. What do you command regarding him?" The king's son replied, "You know best." Qutb responded, "Am I asking you what I know? Go, disappear from my sight! Vanish, go away!" and chased him out. Then they brought the fourteen, the judge's son. They took him alone and told him what they had said to the king's son, and he replied, "Master, the sharia knows." Qutb said, "Was I asking you about the sharia?! Are you its owner?! Get out, vanish!" and chased him out as well. Then they brought the eleven, Amir Timur. Qutb recounted to him everything he had said to the other two. Amir Timur replied, "If the son of a good man has committed such an act and has admitted it, 'It is good if a son is born from a father, it is good if he follows his father's path.' If he does not follow his father's path, it is better that he has nothing at all! This is the essence!" He jumped up, took the sword hanging from Qutb, struck the boy on the back of the neck, and his head fell to the ground. Qutb exclaimed, "Bravo to your hand! Thank you to the woman who bore you!" and called the forty saints, saying, "Lay your hands on him, give him your blessings! My son, walk as far as your legs can take you, leap as far as your hands can reach! May no soul come to your face!" and he gave his blessing. To the fifteen and fourteen of the forty saints, he said, "What you said, 'He will become a man, he will be useful!' is just empty words. One says, 'You know best.' That is the worst of people. Since he has nothing else to say, he just says, 'You know best.' When one consults another, whether it hits or misses, one must say something straightforward: if it hits, it is taken; if it misses, it stays there. The second one says, 'The sharia knows.' Who does not know what the sharia knows?! He also has nothing in his belly. Can a cowardly person who is trying to lean on someone else be of any use? 'There is no paradise for the weak-hearted.' Here is the work of a brave man: 'Without exposing it to the people, without making a fool of them: better to kill yourself than to let many die!' and he killed him and laid him down. "They say that 'Amir Timur became Amir Timur because the saints were watching over him. The forty saints and miraculous beings were supporting him!'" At the age of eight, he first went to the congregation for the Friday prayer. After returning home, he told his mother, "I do not know what the people are like. As soon as I entered the mosque, I saw the Kaaba-God and began to clap my ears. When I finished reading the alhamd as the imam and was about to add a surah, I could barely see, and then I clapped my ears and entered the prayer," he said. In his mind, he thought, "All those who pray see the Kaaba-God as soon as they enter the mosque! They clap their ears upon seeing it," he thought. "I will not clap my ears without seeing the Kaaba-God," he would stand still without clapping. Then he would see the Kaaba-God and clap his ears. His mother realized that her son had an open eye and said, "My son, all those who go to the mosque do not sleep all night, crying out to God until dawn. That is why they see it as soon as they enter, without delay. You sleep all night. That is why you cannot see it as soon as you enter," she said. "From then on, the boy never put his head on the pillow at night," she said. "This is the reason why Amir Timur is called the seer," she said. The meaning is that he was 'perceptive,' 'insightful.' He could see the Prophet Khidr no matter where he was in the world, while sitting at home. He would set out in the direction Khidr was heading.
