The construction of a mausoleum by Amir Timur at the tomb of Khoja Akhmet (Version I)
Once upon a time, when Amir Timur became a ruler and started his campaigns, Khoja Akhmet Yassawi appeared to him in a dream. "You should build a structure on my grave, my spirit will support you," he said. When Amir Timur asked, "Where will I find you?" he replied, "I will show you the way myself." So, taking a leap of faith, Amir Timur set out to find Khoja Akhmet. After a long journey, when he arrived in the city of Turkestan, he received another revelation in his dream, indicating the location of his resting place. When he went there early in the morning, he indeed found a small mausoleum. He recited the Quran and began his work the next day. By evening, he had built a considerable wall, but when he returned in the morning, he saw it had been destroyed. He set a guard over it. However, he fell asleep before dawn and did not know who had destroyed it. After this happened again, on the third day, he went himself. As he was overcome by sleep before dawn, he cut his hand with a dagger and sprinkled salt on it to stay awake. At one point, he noticed a large ox coming and demolishing the wall. Not knowing what to do, Amir Timur fell into thought. In his dream, Khoja Akhmet appeared again and said: "That blue ox is the spirit of Arystan Bab, it is angry with you for destroying it. He is my teacher, and you have stepped over his spirit; therefore, first build a structure on his grave. Only then will you return to me." When he asked, "How will I find him?" the reply was, "I will guide you myself." So, he got up early and headed towards Otrar. He arrived there by evening, and while sleeping, he received a revelation in his dream, showing him the location of the grave. At dawn, he went to the site, recited the Quran, and began the construction. Once the construction was successfully completed, while resting, he received another revelation in his dream: "Now it has been done successfully, come and build your structure on my grave!" Thus, he returned to Turkestan and began constructing the mosque of Khoja Akhmet. However, while the construction was going well, an urgent matter arose in Samarkand, and the craftsman who was building the structure left for there and did not return for various reasons. As a result, the construction of the building remained incomplete. From that time on, whenever Amir Timur set out on a campaign, he would always come to Turkestan, visit the grave of Akhmet Yassawi, hold a feast, and it became a habit to taste from the cauldron. During one such journey, he fell seriously ill and is said to have died there. According to his own will, he was supposed to return to Samarkand. However, to avoid causing a stir among the people, he left without revealing it, saying "Amir is ill." On the way, when he reached the station named Temir, which was settled from Otrar, he took a rest there. In honor of this, it was named "Temir." When he arrived at a place called Temirlan, the people learned of Amir Timur's death, and the secret was revealed. Thus, it is said that the name "Temirlan" originated from this.
