The construction of a mausoleum by Amir Timur at the tomb of Khoja Akhmet (Version II)
Initially, the idea of erecting a mausoleum for Khoja Akhmet had not crossed Amir Timur's mind. This was influenced by the court poet Kermani. Others could not dare to speak a word against the formidable Amir Timur. But Kermani said: "Kings and emperors sow death in the world. They are the enemies of life. Those who sow the seeds of life in the world are mothers. Without them, there is no life. All of you have mothers and children; a bull does not give birth to a calf. It is the mothers who find children, nurture our offspring, and ensure our prosperity. Without a mother, where would kings and emperors come from?" One day, in a buoyant mood, Amir Timur asked him: – Kermani, if I were to be sold, how much would you offer? Kermani replied: – Twenty-five thousand soldiers. – What is this! Isn’t that just the value of my belt? – said the harsh ruler in a stern voice. – I am only considering your belt. You yourself are worth nothing, – Kermani replied. Amir Timur conquers the city of Herat and then holds a council before embarking on a campaign to conquer all of Persia. Kermani disapproves of this: – O Khan, from the distant Karatau to Altai, our vast homeland lies; while we are busy conquering foreign lands, who can guarantee that our northern neighbors and others will not invade our country and seize our land? Amir Timur thinks silently for a long time, then says: – Yes, it is not impossible for that to happen. But what would it mean for us to turn back while our fortune is shining and our affairs are progressing? – After pondering a bit, he adds, – I believe we need to devise a way for those of different faiths to come to us willingly and submit. For this, we should build attractive and magnificent structures, mosques, sacred symbols, and mausoleums near the border. They should elevate the spirit of our ancestors and intimidate our enemies. Then they will come to us willingly and submit. What do you think about this? – he looks at Kermani. – Your words are reasonable. First, erect a mausoleum for Akhmet, – he says. – There are three Akhmets buried in the cemetery of this city of Yasi. Which one should we erect a mausoleum for? – When asked, Kermani names Khoja Akhmet. This opinion plunges Amir Timur into thought; he weighs the three Akhmets in his mind. One of the three Akhmets was Sultan Akhmet, the second was the famous commander Akhmet who led the right wing of the army when Kublai Khan captured Khanbalyk, and the third was a simple Sufi preacher Akhmet, who did not hold a high position or power like the others. He was loved by the entire people. His wisdom is read from hand to hand, and even after two hundred years since his death, visitors to his grave have not ceased. Thus, he finds it appropriate to erect a mausoleum for Khoja Akhmet Yasawi, the servant of Allah, the follower of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the propagator of Islam. Moreover, his mother, Saqipjamal, is buried here. His umbilical cord also fell here. Amir Timur's mother, Saqipjamal, dreams while pregnant; in her dream, she gives birth to a snake. Before her eyes, it grows and turns into a dragon. The dragon first swallows Saqipjamal, and then it swallows the king of the land, Toktalyq. She tells this dream to an old woman who comes to her house. Isn’t it said that "other troubles come from the tongue"? That old woman betrays her and conveys Saqipjamal's dream to the king. The king calls Saqipjamal, cuts her open, and leaves her unburied inside the tomb. When Saqipjamal's sister later visits her aunt's resting place, she sees a crying infant. She cuts the umbilical cord with her teeth and wraps it in her skirt. The mercy of Allah is great! When the girl offers her breast, milk flows. The infant is satisfied with the milk. "If death does not come from Allah, you will not die even if you are chopped to pieces" – this is what it means. Amir Timur did not know who his real mother was until he grew up and mounted a horse.
