Asan Qayğı (Version I)
The folk tale of Asan Qaygy is set during the time of Zhanibek. Zhanibek organized a feast in Astrakhan and invited the children of the three zhuz (hordes). He held a wedding for his second sister and celebrated. He trained a young eagle and held a feast for that as well. For all three of these celebrations, he invited Asan Qaygy, but he did not attend. Finally, he called him, saying, "I want to discuss the people's affairs." Asan came. Zhanibek asked: – Why didn’t you come to my celebrations? Asan replied: – All three of your feasts are not right. There is still a long time before the Kazakhs will benefit from them, – he said, – you have spent the strength of the people on the outskirts of the Kazakhs, enough, farewell, – he said. – Astrakhan will remain for the benefit of the Russians, – he added. Zhanibek asked: – Why didn’t you come to my sister’s wedding? Asan replied: – Your sister mourns for the one who has no comb for her hair, your husband mourns for the one who can hold and bring down the horse. Zhanibek asked: – I trained the eagle and held a feast, why didn’t you come to this? Asan replied: – The swan was the noblest of birds, you let it be attacked by the owl, you will die from the bad, – he said.
