The first appearance of Abilai (Version II)
When he was twelve years old, a boy named Sabalaq was with a Sart named Orazauyl, and they came to the city of Turkestan to serve King Abilmambet (Abualmambet). Unable to settle there, he tended the camels of Tole Bi from the Great Juz Uysyn. He could not stay there either. He went out to Saryarka, entered the land of the Atigai and Karauyl, and tended the horses of the wealthy Dauletkeldi. When asked, "What is your name?" he replied, "My name is Sabalaq." The wealthy man told his wife: – Do not treat him like other servants, take care of him! This Sabalaq is definitely not a Sart. That Orazauyl Sart might be: his eyes are as big as a palm, his feet are as flat as a camel's, his face is red like a child, and his eyes are always hungry, drooling, sitting there senseless and colorless. This Sabalaq has nothing to do with anything; his thoughts are of wisdom, he does not smile, nor does he frown. Even if he goes hungry for six days and nights, he will not eat with his own hands. And even if he eats half a bowl of food, he will not be satisfied unless he gives the leftovers to someone. He does not sit on the ground; if he cannot find anything, even in the vast steppe, he will take off his clothes and sit down. And when he sleeps, he is completely illuminated. Treat him with respect! Let us not encounter any misfortune due to his virtue, – he says. At that time, the Khalkha enemy named Khatysiban attacked the Kazakh horses. The Kazakhs called it "Qylquyryk." The brave warriors, including Karakerey Qabanbay, Qanjyghaly Bogenbay, Kaz Dauysty Qazybek, Shakshaqugly Zhanibek, Kokzharly Koksal Barak, Shanyshqyly Berdikozha, Syrym Malaisary, Sary from the Kerei and Uaq, all set out to confront the Khalkha. The Khalkha had built a fort, surrounded it with defenses, and set up a feast at the entrance, placing women there. When the Kazakh heroes rushed to the feast, the hidden archers shot them down, preventing the Kazakhs from taking the horses. After several days of being stuck, unable to separate the horses from the Khalkha, they were disheartened and decided to retreat. At that moment, the horseman Sabalaq, who had been chasing the horses, found the opportunity when the Kazakhs were about to retreat, dismounted, tied his cloth belt to the end of his whip, raised it like a flag, and boldly entered the Khalkha's fort, shouting: – Abilay! Abilay! – they say. The marvel of God's power is that no arrow passes through him when shot, and no sword cuts him when he charges. He single-handedly broke into the Khalkha's fort, scattering the horses like dung, and then the Kazakh heroes rushed in from all sides, slaughtering the Khalkha and returning home with a great bounty. After defeating the enemy and feeling relieved, the Argin and Naiman warriors said: – Yesterday, no spirit was left uncalled, no battle cry was left unshouted. Everything is useless; even though he is alone, who is he by lineage and origin? Although unknown, he is above all of us, his spirit is strong. There was an old saying: "Do not underestimate the sheep's bone; if it suits you, it is a ram." Come, let us raise him to be a khan, – they said, and brought him to the center of the Atigai and Karauyl, erected a white yurt, provided him with six wives, and placed him on a white felt, crowning him as khan. When the son of Tobylbay Bi, the poet Arystan, was captured, he said to Khan Kenesary: – Kene Khan, if you love me, I am your servant, Even if you hate me, I am your own Alash. The one who provided your ancestor with six wives, I am the son of the Atigai and Karauyl! – and at that moment, Khan Kene, who was about to have him killed, shed tears and said: – Brave one, take whatever you want, – and gave him a horse, a camel to lead, a gun to hang around his neck, and sent him home with thirty companions. The place where Abilay Khan first became khan for the Kazakhs is here. He was twenty years old that day. Until his death, he resided in Kokshetau. This is mentioned in the words and poems of Arystan: The wealthy trade in Mekirzhy, The brave warrior stands firm against the thick enemy. If you ask where Abilay resided, He was khan for forty-eight years in Kokshetau. In ancient times, the Nogai ruled and settled in Saryarka. The wealth of the Nogai had exceeded all limits, so they dug the river called Qylshakty to flow with kumys, saying, "Let there be a river of kumys." They also dug the lake called Saumalkol, saying, "Let it be a lake of kumys." It overflowed, and in time, the later inhabitants became beggars, having taken over that land. After that, the Khalkha ruled and settled there. The mounds found everywhere are the graves of the Khalkha. The Khalkha worship stones. They bury their dead under the stones they worship. The many mounds are for their kings and nobles, while the few are for ordinary people. The time when they ruled Saryarka was during the reign of the Karakalpak Khatysiban. The era known as "Ten Oymauyt, Nine Torgauyt," and "The Heavy Hand of Ayuken" was during the reign of the Khalkha king Qaldan Sherin. It was Abilay Khan who drove the Khalkha away, causing blood to rain down on Saryarka. No one had seen such a prosperous time since Abilay Khan until Adam Ata. In the world, there are eighteen thousand souls, This word has astonished those who know it. Young men, if you listen closely, There has been a khan like Abilay among the Kazakhs! – and this is the Abilay who emerged in poetry.
