The captivity of Abilai (Version III)
This is about how the Saryarka was once ruled by the Nogai, who made it their home, and there is a saying: "When the ten Nogai Ormambet died, the people of Ormambet were scattered like a torn carpet." After that, the Kalmyks ruled and settled there. During the reign of the black Kalmyk Khatysban, ten Oymauyt and nine Torgauyt were known as "Ayu's heavy hand." It is said that "the Khan of the Kuban Kalmyks, Kaldan Sherin, drove the Kalmyks away from Saryarka, causing a rain of black blood on their heads, and it was Khan Abilai who did this." During Abilai's time, the era he lived in was not seen by the son of Qazaqbay before Abilai, since Adam. "The era of Abilai is not known to the Kazakhs, nor will it ever come to their dreams," they said. In the world, there were eighteen thousand souls, This word has amazed those who know. Young men, if you listen closely, There was a Khan like Abilai among the Kazakhs – this is Abilai. It has become a proverb among the Kazakh people: "A bad bird that does not hunt is the labor of a horse, and the labor of meat is for everyone except Abilai," as the ancients used to say: "The story of Kaldan Sherin." It is said that Abilai killed Kaldan Sherin's brother Saru during one campaign. The warrior Syna, who had fled from the Kalmyks, sought refuge with Abilai. When he said, "Let him return to me!" Abilai replied: – Let him not spare me, – and commanded. In this regard, whether it was Kaldan Sherin or any of the Kalmyks, including Ayuke, all sent their horses and dispatched a force called "the hand of Suzeki." – Whether under the sky or on the ground, find Abilai and bring him back! He issued a decree for those who brought him back: – To your noble ones, I will give Topysh Sulu, born of Ayuke's daughter, without a bride price, if they capture him alive, – he said. While hunting with a golden eagle in Kokshetau, one of the Kalmyk nobles captured Abilai alive. His companions did not realize it. Hearing that "they are bringing Abilai," he said: – Without showing me, throw him into the dungeon, do not give him food or water, keep him hungry. On the eighth day, take him out of the dungeon and set up a white yurt in the middle of nowhere! Put one sheep inside and add a handful of sour milk to a cup of plain water; it will not dissolve in plain water, – he said, – if he tries to sip it, it will not reach his mouth. If it is black, he will push his hand down and throw the fat in one go. If he is noble, even if he is dying of hunger, he will not need the fat, – he said. – Let us test him this way, – he said. They did as their Khan commanded, and on the eighth day, they set up the white yurt in the middle of nowhere, placed him inside alone, and brought a cup of plain water with a handful of fat. When Abilai drank the water, the fat neither melted nor reached his mouth. – What kind of thing are you that does not blow away? You are not something that comes with my breath, – he said, throwing (casting) what he held into the sky, and those who were watching reported everything they saw. – There is some nobility in this thing, – they said, – now bring four young men with naked swords, – he said, – "A decree has been issued by the Khan, a provision has been made from the commoners. This is the order that your guest has received from God," and they began to strike with swords, – he said, – if one of you gets under your horse, strike him down. If the sarqaska is sitting upright, do not strike, come back again, – he said, – tell me what you have seen and heard, – he said. When the executioners arrived and fulfilled all of Kaldan Sherin's commands, without bringing anything to his attention, he sat there without fear, raising his brow. – Is his heart stone or horn? He did not run away from us, – they said, and returned to Kaldan Sherin. Hearing this, Kaldan Sherin took ninety guards with him: – I will see Abilai's face, – he said, and had the inside of one house arranged, setting up a royal throne, and with his ninety guards, they sat in order, leaving no empty space except for the king's throne. One of the many guards sat among them: – Now call Abilai to this house, – he said, – do not let any of you bump into him or give him a place, – he said, – if he is black, he will sit down at the threshold saying, "It is an empty space." If he is noble, he will boldly rise up, knowing without asking, and will say something – he said. They called Abilai and brought him into the house. Not looking around, seeing that the throne was empty, with a deity to worship, he did not look around, went and sat down, and then the bad Kalmyks began to murmur: – He did not sit on the ground, he sat on the throne, – they began to grumble. Kaldan Sherin, realizing he recognized him, said: – Oh, Abilai, where is Saru? – he asked. – There were many who favored me, the bad news remained with us, – he said. He asked again: – Where is Saru? Saru did not say he was Saru, nor did he say he would not cut him. And for the third time: – Where is Saru? – he asked. – Instead of looking for Saru, who is not visible, look for yourself, who is visible, – he said. Kaldan Sherin asked his guards: – What kind of person is this? – he said. – You are sitting here and have lost your throne. Today I sit on the throne. If I take your head today, who will break my decree? – he said, – the provision is with you, the decree is with us, – hearing these words, he regretted having called Abilai to test him and jumped up, took Abilai's hand. They reconciled, and he gave Topysh Sulu to Abilai, freeing the Kazakhs who had been captured since ancient times, allowing them to thrive. To this day, if someone asks, "Who are you?" they say, "We are the nameless, ancestor-less commoners." Now their descendants remained among the Kalmyks, and they say that they gave Abilai as a prize. Saying, "We did not give Topysh Sulu to one of our own, but gave her to Abilai," in the end, they became enemies and eventually killed the Kalmyk Khan. Kaldan Sherin's wife, Karabas Khanum, gave birth to Aizhan – the only one, and instead of her father, they appointed her, but without raising her for three years, they blinded her, leaving her to wander. The two sons, Kyrgyn and Kush, born of Ayuke's daughter, saw Abilai as their uncle and Topysh Khanum as their sister. After several of them came to Abilai with the Kalmyks who followed them, the Kalmyks divided. In the end, as they were moving towards Shurshyt, when the children cried, they would say: – Why do you cry, you miserable ones, Sorkara, do you have Sork? Do you have meat spread out, Do you have your old Koneke, Tolağai? Do you have your kumys standing in Koneke? – they would say. "Sorkara, Sork," "Koneke, Tolağai" are said to be the fertile, lush lands of Saryarka.
