Abilai's naming it "The Bloody Pine Became Blood, It Became a Path"
In the center of Akmolinsk, Atbasar, and Kokshetau, there used to be vast steppes and the area known as "Bloody Pine," which was previously called Atygay, Karauyl, Karzhaz, and the pastures of Altai. When Abilai was a khan, with blood dripping from his sword, he was consulting with many Kazakh heroes when a mounted man hurriedly entered. "Sit down, what kind of person is this in such a hurry?" he asked. Then the young man replied: "I was a traveling Kazakh, and I happened to encounter the Kalmyks on the road. They robbed me and asked me questions. When they asked, 'Where is Abilai? Which heroes are with him now? Which direction are they planning to march?' I did not answer. Then one hero said, 'Look, my sleep has not been disturbed. I will not stop until I drink the blood of Abilai or his heroes.' One of them stood up and said, 'We will drink blood quickly.' They mocked me. I came to inform you after I got heated with their blood and escaped from their hands," he said. The Khan: "Heroes, do not say 'there is no enemy under the rock.' Let us not let the enemy slip away. He has already come close," he said, asking the young man for details, raised the flag, and they set off. As the heroes were on their way, it became late. A fire was seen in the distance. The scouts noticed: "There was a thick pine forest ahead of us; the fire must be coming from there," they said. It was difficult to attack the enemy at night. They set up guards around and spent the night. They also sent word to the surrounding people to be ready. At dawn, the scouts reported, "The enemy has moved." Abilai raised his banner and marched against the enemy. The enemy also raised their blue banner and marched towards them. This was the Kalmyk hero Sherish, under Khan Kaldan. "Who is this? Who are they looking for?" he sent a messenger. The message traveled far. When Abilai's messenger arrived, he said, "I am the hero Sherish." The enemy leader: "We sent messengers several times to live in peace with Abilai, but even if Abilai wanted to agree, his heroes Andygoja and Angal did not allow it," he said. "Now we need Abilai and his two heroes. They did not believe in the saying 'an enemy who has fought will not become a nation,' and now they say they will not stop until they drink their blood." Andygoja and Angal were not in this army. "Alright, 'to those who seek an enemy, green is the way,' they must have started something," Abilai pondered, looking carefully to see how to attack. From within, someone said: "You were my ancestral enemy; no matter how much I forgave you, you did not agree. Now I will kill you and drink your blood," and he charged at Abilai. Abilai did not back down either. The two grappled on horseback, using weapons against each other. The battle continued thickly among the pines. After a while, Abilai's spirit took over, and the enemy hero's horse fell flat. Abilai killed the enemy and, leading his horse, found that the mixed battle had scattered into the forest and the steppe. Abilai raised his banner and climbed a hill, starting to gather his men there. The Kalmyk banner did not rise, and their people began to scatter, not knowing where to gather. The gathered heroes scattered the Kalmyks, driving them out of the thick pines into the open steppe, ultimately achieving victory. Abilai's forces spent the night there, announcing their victory over the enemy to the surrounding people, and shared the spoils captured from the enemy. After dividing the spoils, the crowd said: "What shall we call this campaign?" they murmured, and then Abilai replied: "Let this campaign be called 'The Bloody Pine became blood, it became a path,'" they say. Since then, this region has been known by that name.
