Bekbolat Bi
Bekbolat is the son of the renowned Kazakh figure Qazybek from the Karakesek tribe. He was the advisor, beloved, and trusted judge of Khan Abilay. Other judges envied him and attempted to separate him from the Khan.
One day, the Karakeseks quarreled with the Khan's attendants and stole a considerable number of their horses, including a herd belonging to the Khan's family. The judges, who were looking to undermine Bekbolat, went to the Khan and suggested, "It is Bekbolat who is causing this; if he has no value in the Khan's eyes, there will be no shame among the common Kazakhs. Please put an end to this insolence."
Following this corrupt advice, Abilay gathered his forces and went to the Karakeseks, capturing the accused individuals and driving back a large number of livestock. On the way, they stopped to rest in a pleasant place.
"Look behind you, is anyone visible?" the Khan asked those around him.
"A cloud of dust is visible; someone is coming at a fast pace," they replied, looking back.
"Ah, if someone is coming quickly, it must be Bekbolat. Do not block his way; listen to everything he says," the Khan instructed the judges.
It was indeed Bekbolat. Upon arrival, he stopped on horseback in front of the Khan's tent, facing away, and recited:
"The fox of the Oral mountain
Cannot be caught by dogs.
The white deer of the Oral mountain,
If it comes, it will not leave,
Even then, it will not be killed."
Then he dismounted, freed the tied-up young men, and left. The Khan remained silent, and the others could not speak up.
After Bekbolat freed his people and drove away the livestock, Abilay asked his judges, "What did you understand from his words?" None of them could comprehend.
"Even if his words are unclear to you, they are clear to me," said the Khan. "When he said, 'The fox of the Oral mountain cannot be caught by dogs,' he was referring to you. When he said, 'The white deer of the Oral mountain,' he was referring to me. He said, 'You came, did what you intended, do not kill me.' He will now bring back the full compensation for the accusations. What you need is the spoils; divide them among yourselves."
The Khan's prediction was correct. Bekbolat laid out nine of his accusations before Abilay, bowed with great respect, and took his hand. From then on, they continued to live in harmony as before.
