Once, the hero Almerik sets out on a long journey. He travels for a long time. One evening, according to Kazakh tradition, he turns his horse towards a village he encounters and stops in front of a tall white yurt. A young man, seeing the guest, holds the traveler's horse and ties it to a sturdy tree, then opens the door and lets him in. The host greets the guest and invites him to the honored place. He has livestock slaughtered and treats him with kindness. In the morning, when he gets up, he sees that the guest's tied horse is drenched in sweat and is staggering from exhaustion. It turns out that the horse has fallen ill. The guest consults the local healer about his horse and stays in that house. Then Almerik notices that the behavior of the people in this house is unlike one another, each having a different character. One does not listen to what the other says. The younger ones do not follow the words of the elders. There are many arguments. The father is rather grumpy, the mother is somewhat irritable, the sons are stubborn, the daughters are proud, and the daughter-in-law is lazy. They all have quarrelsome, unrefined, and uneducated appearances. When sitting alone, Almerik has a long conversation with the head of the household, sharing their thoughts openly. - "Since we are sitting by the same hearth, at the same table," Almerik says, discussing the importance of harmony in the household, "isn't it true that a cheerful face brightens a gloomy heart?" - "We have become accustomed to this bickering," the head of the household replies sadly, "ah, it seems unlikely that we will change now." - "Come on, don't lose hope." - "So what should I do?" - "From today onwards, you should smile and keep a cheerful face. Then your children will look to your expression and will naturally follow suit." The head of the household listens to Almerik and follows his advice. Thus, a new bright phenomenon appears in this house. The frowning faces of those who used to sulk brighten up, and they begin to converse cheerfully with one another. During this time, Almerik shares many wise words and teachings. The host and his children listen attentively to his words. Their feelings of respect for him grow. After a while, Almerik's horse also recovers and begins to regain its strength. Now he prepares to leave. At that moment, the head of the household, his wife, and their children cling to him, asking him to stay a few more days. Almerik accepts their request and stays for several more days. During this time, he shares many wise and educational stories. His warm words resonate with the people in the house and settle in their hearts. They change significantly from their previous ways. Finally, the traveler prepares to depart. The wife expresses her gratitude for the traveler's kindness and drapes a cloak over his shoulders. - "You are a remarkably wise person, please bless my children and share your wisdom..." Everyone in the house eagerly listens to Almerik. Then the sage first turns to the old man and woman: - "There is no person who does not wish for goodness from God. If the Creator listens to that wish, a person will achieve their goals. Therefore, pay attention to these instructive words. One of such words is as follows: - If you are irritable, your son will leave, If you are grumpy, your daughter will leave. If you are intolerant, your daughter-in-law will leave, If you are restless, your companion will leave. If you are harsh, your kin will leave, If you are greedy, your honor will leave. If you are foolish, your brother will leave, If you are ignorant, your village will leave. You will lose your heart over little things, Those who correct their faults will achieve their goals. Remember this teaching," says Almerik. The old man and woman nod their heads, acknowledging their faults like repentant individuals. The children also look at him with hopeful eyes, waiting for good wishes. Almerik then turns to the children: - "You too, fulfill your childhood duties honestly and without hesitation! Do not forget this saying: - A good son is the path of life, A bad son is a burden on the heart. A good daughter is a blessing, A bad daughter is endless toil. A good girl is a source of light, A bad girl brings misfortune..." - "Grandfather, you are a saint who wishes goodness for humanity; we will faithfully follow your teachings," the old man's children promise. From then on, the people of this house begin to cherish one another, and the younger ones habitually obey the words of the elders without needing to be told twice. Their conversations become polite, and their gazes kind. The surrounding people now look up to them as an example.
