The critique of the poet Qaban
The famous heroes of Zhetysu, Otegen and Rayymbek, were contemporaries. After Otegen the hero returned to his homeland after searching for the land of plenty, four heroes—Dulat Karash, Otegen, Alban Rayymbek, and Zhalayir Qaban—gathered at Otegen's house. Rayymbek and Otegen were peers, while Karash was younger than them; it seemed that Qaban was the eldest among them.
Rayymbek began to speak:
- Otegen, you have traveled the world as a critic, you have returned after roaming the land, we have grown older, you are a hero, and you have seen much. What will happen to us when we die, where will each of us remain? Please tell us, - he said.
Otegen replied:
- "A younger brother should not speak while an elder is present," so let our elder, Qaban, who has seen the light of the world before us, speak, - and he turned the conversation to Qaban.
Then Qaban said:
- Did you two poke each other until you finally made me speak? Listen, let me try to say something, - he began. - May my name, Qaban, be a blessing to my parents who named me. Since my name is Qaban, I will be at the source of a spring, under the reeds. My body will lie on the ground for three days, and after three days, it will not be found. Well, Otegen, you have a kind and warm nature; you will remain by the flowing water, but you will eventually drift away. Rayymbek, you are sociable; you will remain on the great road where the noise will never cease until the Day of Judgment, - he said.
