The migration of the Abak people led by Zhanibek from the Chingiz Mountains.
The great dream of Batyr Zhanibek was to return to his ancestral homeland, where he was born and washed away his sins, in Altai, Tarbagatai, Erenqabyrga, and Kumil, and to restore the borders of his people. This was not only Zhanibek's wish but also the common desire of Khan Abilay, the Kazakh commanders led by Kabanbay and Bogenbay, and the entire Kazakh nation. At that time, the Abak people inhabited the regions of Shyngystau, Koksala, and Bakhanas, living alongside the Argyn tribes. The internal strife arising from the disputes over land and settlement among the growing tribes directly led to the migration of the Kerey people to the east. When Batyr Zhanibek began to lead the Abak people in their migration, he engaged in a verbal contest with the neighboring tribes: - "While the Kultey horse stands, I will not bow to your steed. While my man stands, I will not submit to your numbers. My lineage is noble, my horse is noble, My axe is sharp, and my spear is ready. Even if I build a bridge over the great Irtysh, I will cross, As long as my soul does not leave my chest, I will reach my ancient land," he said. In these words of the batyr lay both grievances and his heartfelt aspirations. At that time, Zhanibek was also upset with his aging maternal uncle, Kazibek bi. When Zhanibek was about to lead his people in migration, Kazibek bi, who had raised him since childhood and loved him dearly, thought: "They say a nephew's attention is difficult; let me invite him for a meal and give him my blessing," and instructed his messengers: - "Do not say he calls me; say your uncle invites you for a meal at his home," he advised, "if he returns, he will return then; if he does not honor the meal, he will not have good fortune," he said. The messengers conveyed this message to Zhanibek without fail. Zhanibek batyr said: - "What can I do if it is my uncle? I thought of not going, but if he has invited me for a meal, I must go; otherwise, I will not have good fortune," and he set off with his companions to his uncle's village. When they arrived, Kazibek bi was waiting at the door, wrapped in his golden robe. As Zhanibek greeted his uncle and entered the house: - "Let me in, let me in; even if the jester is crooked, the smoke rises straight," he said, honoring his uncle and entering the house, followed by himself. Pleased with the batyr's arrival, the old bi settled down and said: - "You were one to go out to battle with a capable hand; while the whole of Kazakhstan was wishing for you, you never flinched from the enemy. Now you are to lead the people, become a bi, migrate the people, and go out to the borders of the land. Do not disappoint the people, do not let your enemies rejoice!" Then Zhanibek expressed his gratitude for his uncle's words and replied: - "When it comes to speech, I can endure at fifty-five, When it comes to argument, I can endure at forty-five, When it comes to battle, I can endure at twenty-five," he said, bringing joy to his uncle. With determination, he turned his face to the cold and said to his uncle: - "Do not quarrel over land with the settled Mongols, do not choose a settlement among your people. If you think of justice, your people will honor you." Holding on to his uncle's wise words, the batyr spoke: - "To those who respect, I give my word, To those who are sincere, I give my promise, Taking the spear with a bell in hand, Taking the cool breastplate, Choosing the worthy deed, If the debt is owed, I will repay, From you comes the legacy Of our ancestral customs, uncle," he said. Thus, Kazibek bi sincerely wished him well and sent him off with good fortune. Zhanibek batyr led his people and settled at Kalba Mountain, but many obstacles lay ahead to reach his ancient homeland like Altai, Tarbagatai, and Erenqabyrga. The seven tribes of the Urankai and Dorbit who had taken control of Altai, and the newly arrived Torgayuts in the Tarbagatai region were very powerful. The people inhabited Kalba Mountain for several years. During this time, Zhanibek batyr traveled to the Upper Altai, Tarbagatai, and Erenqabyrga mountains, made peace with the people there, and established tranquility. While residing in Kalba, Zhanibek batyr built a road over one of the passes near Akhtau in Altai and returned after surveying the area. Later, since this area was inhabited by the Karatai clans of the Naiman, it was named "Karatai Pasture," and that pass became known as "Zhanibek Batyr's Pass." The Kazakh people revered this batyr and called him "Akyr Zhanibek." This meant that there would never be another person with such a heart and spirit. Therefore, the people preserved Zhanibek batyr's banner until later times, raising it during wars. This banner, made of shimmering silk, was the last banner of the Kazakh heroes. Zhanibek batyr passed away in 1792 at the age of over eighty. The news of his death was kept secret for three years. After three years, a feast was announced for the children of the Three Juzes, and a memorial was erected. Zhanibek batyr's grave is located in the region of Kalba Mountain, in Zhalama, near the Red Water.
