Zhidebay Batyr
The Middle Horde, Argin, one of the five holidays is Karakesek. Karakesek is not a person's name; his real name is Bolatqozha, from Bolatqozha, Aksha and Tuyte are born. From Tuyte come Maiky and Tanas. From Maiky come Altake and Sarym. The son of that Altake is Dos Batyr. At the age of seventy-eight, he and his only son Qozhanazar are captured by the Kalmyks. The Kalmyks say, "Let's kill the Kazakhs," but some of them say, "Let's not kill both the father and son, let's not wipe out their lineage. Historically, there was no killing of captives in the wars between Kazakhs and Kalmyks, except for those who were killed in battle." Fearing the whispers of the Kalmyks and feeling terrified, Dos Batyr begins to lament: – They whisper, Whispers pass through the ears. Oh, if only a person does not whisper, What might happen? If I die, oh my! Qozhanazar, my little one! – and he keeps crying. After seeing this, the Kalmyks say, "Let the father and son consult among themselves; let one be left for us as a prize, and let us take the other back to his homeland." Then the boy jumps up and says, "Let me be a sacrifice to God, so that you can find your people!" When he cries out, Dos Batyr says, "The Kalmyks do not need the old man; they need the young man. They will not kill the young man but will subjugate him and take him as their own. What can I accomplish while I am still alive? I have cooked the meat of a goose, I have lived seventy-eight years. If I leave you and go back to my people, everyone will say, ‘There is no Dos, here he is alive.’ Not only my relatives but also my enemies and friends will say so. Isn't this monster a monster that has devoured my only son Qozhanazar and now comes back to me?" "If you go, they will rejoice, saying, ‘There is no Dos, here he is alive.’ And if you take a wife and have children, it will be my vengeance that the Kalmyks will take from you," he blesses his son and sends him back, while he himself remains in the hands of the Kalmyks. Qozhanazar returns safely to his people and takes a wife. His wife gives birth to a son, whom he names Jidebay. When Jidebay was a little child, his mother died, and Qozhanazar takes a second wife. The second wife's name is Apar. Apar gives birth to six sons. Apar is not a liar; she is not short. While giving birth to six children, Apar is not tall enough to tie the poles of a five-winged yurt, so she lays Jidebay down under her feet and ties the poles like that. In those days, there were wars, and people did not know how to hire laborers. No one would turn to anyone else. Those who recognized Apar would think that all the hardships of the household would fall on Jidebay. The six children were born like puppies, one after another without a year in between. Would the only one, Jidebay, turn to them? Gathering dung, fetching water, and tending the fire were all on Jidebay's shoulders. At that time, there were many migrations; every day there was a migration. When they migrated, if they set up a yurt and tied the poles, Jidebay was ready to lay down and grow. A single word that came out of Jidebay's mouth as a little child would move everything, sway it, and bring it to life. The women would say, "My dear, your eyes have not opened yet; if your mother were alive, even if the yurt were not set up, she would not do that!" Jidebay would reply, "What she is doing is not malice towards me, but friendship. She wants me to mature, to be patient and resilient." When milk was being boiled, six bowls were placed in front of the six children, and each had a spoon in hand, and they would pour the foam separately for each one and say, "Lick this up." And when Jidebay was given the bag filled with dung, they would point and say, "Watch the fire." When Jidebay reached seven or eight years old, he began to hear. One day, his grandfather Dos Batyr appeared in his dream and woke him up: "Karakeri Qabanbay Batyr is staying at Almyrtbay's tonight. My son, go and get a blessing from Karakeri Qabanbay." In the dream, Jidebay got up, wearing a tattered light blue shirt, and flew like a bird to find Qabanbay Batyr, but Qabanbay Batyr had just left. At first, he could not distinguish what it was from afar. Once he recognized that it was a child flying like a bird, the batyr stopped. He was going on a campaign with many people. The boy approached and greeted him, "Assalamu Alaikum!" "Wa Alaikum Assalam, may your path be blessed, young messenger! Where are you going?" asked the batyr. – You are the renowned ancestor; I came to receive a blessing! – said the boy. – What good is a blessing? I had four apples, I gave you one, take it, my son! – and he continued on his way. Thus, one of the four apples was called "red fox," and the batyr gave that one to him. On the day when Abilai became the khan of all Kazakhs from three horde, Altake, Sary, and Jidebay were named famous batyrs and became commanders under Khan Abilai. When setting out for a campaign, they would saddle the horse taken from the Uysyn and mount Altake, Sarym, and Jidebay Batyr. For Jidebay, the moonless dark night was as bright as midday, and he seemed to see a place where no one could find him. When someone was walking with a knife in the field and left it somewhere, even in the moonless dark night, even if it was raining or snowing, he would stop and say, "Well, look down from here," and the person left behind would find it slowly. When asked, "How did you find this?" he would not reveal the secret to the khan. Only Khan Abilai would say, "This one has a red fox." That person, lurking around, would find the red fox lying under the collar of the sleeping person. When the fox turned its head, it would be frightened and run away. The khan would come and tell what he had seen. Whatever he saw, he would lose sight of it. Jidebay Batyr took seven wives and died at the age of one hundred and five. Somewhere near the Alatau, in a place that is not known. In a place where no one could find, a starshin was living safely from enemies and famine. Jidebay found that place and captured it. In that land, there was a Qozha named Saryqozha. This place was a place that no one had seen. It was a place where one could not find a person throughout their life. "If it is a giant, it must be the white-eyed Jidebay, the cursed Jidebay!" they would say. The words that came out of Saryqozha's mouth were accepted, and Jidebay lost sight early. He went and fell at the feet of the Qozha, but it was in vain. "Spit that comes out of the mouth, if swallowed again – it is macro," they said, once it comes out of the mouth, it cannot be undone. The tombs of Altake, Sarym, and Jidebay are located at the foot of the Red Mountain called Qyzyltau, along the banks of the Nura River, near the grave of Mashrup Kün. This Mashrup herself is a servant, and she is remembered as the head of many nations' graves.
