Zhasybai Batyr
Jasybai the hero was brave and fearless from a young age. At the age of eighteen, he gained the title of a hero.
One day, some people gathered in a ravine of the Akbet mountain and spoke of Jasybai's bravery.
– Jasybai is not afraid of anyone. There is no one in this region who can compare to his heroism. Let's see if he dares to confront the spirit. For that, let's dig a hole, lay a person inside, and place a log on top, then send Jasybai to that, – said the elders.
Night falls. They slaughter a horse, put its meat in a large cauldron, and call for Jasybai:
– Jasybai, my dear, we need firewood to cook this horse meat. We are reluctant to cut down the green fir trees of Bayanaul. There used to be a dry wood lying near the rich grave under those two birch trees. No one is more suitable than you. Go bring it, – said the elders.
Jasybai goes for firewood. The night is dark. As Jasybai picks up the dry wood from the grave, someone in a white shroud suddenly jumps up from inside.
– Oh, Jasybai, have you come to test your strength with the living after finishing with them? – says a fearful voice. At first, Jasybai is startled, but quickly gathers himself:
– Oh, wretched one, you were a greedy person who never spared anything for others while alive, and now, even in the grave, you are reluctant to part with this wood? You can no longer exert your command, lie still! – and he continues to carry the wood away.
Thus, Jasybai, who passed the test without stumbling, gained even more fame as a hero.
