One day, while Yusuf was carrying his flintlock rifle, he saw a black eagle sitting on top of a tree. As Yusuf was about to shoot, the eagle said, "Hunter, don't shoot me." Initially surprised, Yusuf thought, "It would be better if this eagle were dead than alive," and aimed a second time. The eagle again said, "Hunter, don't shoot me!" Yusuf thought again, and when he aimed a third time, the eagle said, "Let me perch on your hand, and you take care of me." Yusuf did as the bird said. One day, the eagle said to Yusuf, "Get on my back, and I will take you to the forest," and it offered its back. Yusuf jumped onto the eagle's back like a cat and they flew to a dense thicket. "Choose a big tree from here!" said the eagle. The eagle perched on the tree Yusuf pointed to and shook it, but did not break it. The eagle said, "Still take care of me." After taking care of the bird for two months, when Yusuf brought it back, the tree he had chosen broke in half. Then the eagle commanded, "Get on my back." Yusuf climbed onto the eagle, and they soared into the sky. As they flew high, the eagle dropped Yusuf over a sea, but caught him just before he hit the water. The second time, it dropped him over a burning fire, but caught him before he fell into the flames. The third time, it dropped him over a cliff, but caught him just before he hit the rocks. Then the eagle landed on a hill and asked Yusuf, "Were you afraid of the water, the fire, or the mountain?" "How could I not be afraid? My life was in danger," replied Yusuf. "Well, if you saw danger, you first showed me your soul by saying 'I will shoot you!' Now, Yusuf, at the foot of this hill, there is my homeland. Go there and ask my father for news. I have reached this state because I lost my hands and feet in battle; God has brought me to this condition. When you go to my father, no matter how many cattle he offers you, do not accept them; just take the little red chest," said the eagle. Following these instructions, Yusuf conveyed the eagle's message. The father then said, "If I spare my only son, may the dogs eat me," and he gave the chest, but warned, "Do not open this chest; if you do, you will face many troubles." After celebrating for forty days and feasting for thirty days, the eagle's father sent Yusuf back to his homeland with forty ministers. When Yusuf arrived at an island, he thought, "What could be in this chest?" He opened it, and immediately something flashed and a golden tower rose over him. The forty ministers shouted, "Run, run!" Yusuf could not move. While he was sitting there crying, a witch came to him and said, "When you return home, there will be a child you do not know; bring him to this island." "Alright. Just put this house back in the chest," Yusuf pleaded. The witch agreed and placed the house back in the chest. Before long, Yusuf returned home. He found that after he had left, a child had been born. The child's name was Serik. Yusuf sent Serik to the island with the forty ministers. After they had dropped Serik off on the island, he was crying when the witch came and said, "My child, do not cry! Go to the middle of the water and wave your hand; then you will find a door handle. Open that door and run. Another door will appear in front of you. If you open that door, a king will come out and give you a task." Serik followed the witch's instructions perfectly. The king said, "Today is calm; tomorrow I will give you a task." The next day, the king ordered Serik to "harvest the endless wheat by dawn." At that time, the king had five daughters, the youngest of whom was the same age as Serik. When Serik was crying, the girl asked, "Why are you crying?" Serik explained his situation. The girl then said, "Oh, is that a reason to cry? Come, let us harvest together." The girl went and filled five bundles in no time. The next day, the king took Serik outside. The field was filled with a fierce wind, and the wind scattered five bags of millet, ordering, "Gather them by dawn." Serik went to the girl, and together they quickly gathered the millet into five bags and tied them up. Then the king ordered, "Train the horse," and Serik became excited. The girl said, "That will be difficult for you. Take one of these two clubs; when you mount it, the horse will fly into the sky. You must hit the horse on the head with this club. It will not care about your blows; your hand will tire, but do not stop hitting. If you do not hit, you will die on that horse," she advised. Serik followed the girl's instructions exactly. The next day, when Serik arrived at the king's palace, the king's head was swollen blue. The reason was that the king had been transformed into a horse the day before. Noticing that his daughter was interested in Serik, the king said to him, "Now five horses will come; choose one." At dawn, five horses arrived, four of them purebred and one a lame foal. Serik chose the lame foal. The king asked, "Why do you choose the lame foal instead of one of the four purebreds?" Serik replied, "I am a bad person; a bad horse suits me." Then the king buried his five daughters and said, "Find your beloved among these girls." After searching, Serik dug in one place and found his beloved Gulbarshin, the youngest daughter of the king who had helped him. The king united Serik and Gulbarshin. Gulbarshin was an extraordinary sorceress. One day, while Serik was sitting, worried about his homeland, Gulbarshin asked, "Why are you sad?" Serik expressed his longing for his homeland. The girl then said, "We need to prepare for the journey," and began to gather supplies. One evening, Gulbarshin and Serik ran away. Before leaving, Gulbarshin cut her pinky and dripped blood in one place where they would sleep, another where they would wash, and one drop at the exit. In the morning, the king ordered his servants, "Call the groom!" The servant came and said, "He is getting dressed." The second time he reported, "He is washing." The third time he said, "He is coming." When the king himself came, he realized that the servant had seen Gulbarshin's blood. After learning that his daughter had run away, the king sent forty ministers to pursue her. As the forty ministers approached Serik, Gulbarshin turned into a tulip, the two horses into sheep, and Serik into a shepherd. When the ministers chased them again, Gulbarshin turned into the moon, the two horses into a grave, and Serik into a priest. The ministers returned without being able to catch the fleeing girl and groom. They reported what they had seen to the king. The king then went out himself to search. As the king approached Serik, Serik turned into a wolf, Gulbarshin into a fish, and the horses into water. When the king came and began to drink the water, the wolf came and took a bite. At that moment, the king said to his forty ministers, "Stop, this girl must be a broken egg," and returned home. Thus, Serik and Gulbarshin achieved their desires.
