The Graceful Girl (Version II)
Once upon a time, there was a rich man who had a single daughter whom he cherished and raised with great care. Although she was an only child, she grew up to be as wise as she was beautiful, truly embodying the saying, "When a girl grows up, she becomes the beauty of the nation." The rich man's daughter became a legend for her intelligence and beauty, attracting many suitors from far and wide. Wealthy men and brave warriors, confident in their fortunes, sought her hand. Since she was the only child, her parents allowed her to choose her life partner based on her own preferences. However, the girl often showed disinterest, dismissing potential suitors with the response, "You are not my equal." As time passed, no one seemed to capture the heart of the "Elegant Girl." Naturally, this situation worried her parents, and through her sisters-in-law, her mother would inquire, "What is she thinking?" The girl replied, "I am not aimlessly wandering without thoughts for my future. However, I would like to entrust my fate to someone who truly resonates with my heart, rather than just anyone who approaches me. I am grateful to my parents for giving me life, raising me with love, and granting me my freedom, which has allowed my name 'Elegant Girl' to spread throughout the land. My current desire is to find someone who can express my elegance through the language of the flute; I believe that if they understand my soul, I would go to them." The girl's intentions quickly spread throughout the land. After that, not only wealthy men on fine horses but also valiant warriors with spears began to flock to the rich man's village, and soon, many talented flute players arrived. For a long time, none of the flute players pleased the Elegant Girl. She would dismiss them, saying, "Just simple tunes, familiar melodies." Then one day, a modestly dressed young man, not wealthy, came and played a tune, saying, "I will uplift the heart of the Elegant Girl and transfer her elegance to my flute." The poor young man's melody resonated with the girl, and they fell in love. Her parents were pleased with this union, and they held a grand celebration. It is said that this was the melody of the "Elegant Girl."
