The Hunter's Lament
Two brothers who made hunting their profession left the village for some reason and settled in a mountain gorge. One day, while hunting on two ridges, the elder brother shoots a wild horse. After putting the meat of the wild horse in a bag and drying its skin in the sun, suddenly the sky becomes overcast, and a heavy downpour begins. The hunter is forced to hide the wild horse's skin in a crevice of a rock and take shelter there. At that moment, the younger brother, who has climbed to a ridge, sees what looks like a wild horse lying down. Without thinking, the younger brother draws his bow, intending to slaughter the wild horse, only to discover that it is his elder brother who has died. The unfortunate one, who has sent his brother to the afterlife, is overwhelmed with grief and returns to their camp while weeping, carrying his brother on his back. Not daring to bring him directly to the camp, he lays the body in a nearby place and goes to his brother's tent. His sister-in-law, who comes out to greet him, welcomes him without any suspicion. When she asks, "You are late, where is your brother?" the younger brother cannot find the words to answer and makes up an excuse to enter the tent. At that moment, he accidentally picks up the brown dombra that was leaning against the wall and plays a mournful tune. The sensitive sister-in-law exclaims, "Oh my! This tune is a lament I have never heard before! What terrible thing are you starting? Are you mourning the loss of your brother?" It is said that the dombra fell from the hunter's hands at that moment.
