The Graceful Girl (Version I)
Once upon a time, there was a talented young man. In those days, a good young man would tend to horses and ride swift steeds. One day, while searching for his stray horses, this talented young man came across a village. In that village, there was a white yurt pitched a bit further away. After noticing a wooden post for tying horses outside, he turned his horse's head, thinking it must be a "guest house." As the young man had thought, the area around the house was tidy, with no belongings scattered on the ground. When he entered the house through the creaking door, he saw a young girl sitting on the right, embroidering. The young man greeted her. The girl quickly stood up, politely greeted him, and spread a blanket for him to sit on. After the young man settled on the blanket, he placed his whip outside and briefly explained his situation. The girl said, "Oh, you must be tired from searching, let me prepare some drinks and food, please make yourself comfortable," and then she went out. As the young man looked around the house, he noticed a yellow dombra leaning against the wall. Hesitantly, he reached out and began to play it softly. The young man, who had just arrived from a long journey, had no desire to play passionately; it seemed he was merely passing the time. The girl, who was bringing kumis and pillows, noticed this. Not only did she notice, but she also smiled as if to say, "He has spoiled the dombra's harmony." "Friend, what have you noticed that makes you laugh?" the young man asked playfully. The girl, suppressing her laughter, replied with a graceful demeanor: "No, it wouldn't be fitting for us, sitting at home, to find fault with a young man like you, who is on the edge of the world and in the wind's path. Even if we sought faults, we wouldn't find any. I was just laughing at the dombra's tongue being tangled while it was singing beautifully," she ended her words with a joke. The graceful girl's charming words and her silver-like ringing voice captivated the young man's soul, shaking him from within. There is a saying, "Only the shameless argue with wise words." The wise young man, inwardly absorbing the girl's words, straightened his posture and said, "Ah, if there is an ear that understands the dombra's tongue, let me try to make it speak," and he began to play a tune. The girl politely knelt, her eyes sparkling, and listened intently to the music without blinking. Her rosy complexion changed, and her fair forehead stretched as she seemed to be fully immersed in the melody. The tune came to an end. The girl's soft chest trembled, and she let out a light sigh, saying, "Oh my, this is a tune rich in secrets that I have never heard before." Then the young man replied, "Friend, although I played the tune, it was you who inspired it, your graceful demeanor. Consider this our shared moment. Let the name of the tune be 'Graceful Girl,'" he said. Thus, the tune that united the hearts of the two young people spread among the people under the name "Graceful Girl."
