Bozaiğyr (Version III)
Once upon a time, thieves were driving away horses that were grazing at the foot of the mountains. Among the horses was a stallion named Bozaiğyr. He was not straying far from the herd, grazing at the edge. When the thieves chased the horses, they took Bozaiğyr along with the herd. After three days on the road, on the fourth day, Bozaiğyr sensed that the land and the people driving him were strange, so he began to whinny and ran back to his village. The son of a wealthy man, knowing that Bozaiğyr's separation from the herd was not accidental, caught the stallion, saddled him, armed himself, and chased after the horses. He caught up to the horses and turned the herd back. Seeing this, the bandits surrounded the boy, intending to capture and humiliate him. However, their plan failed. Because the boy, along with Bozaiğyr, charged at the thieves unexpectedly and knocked two of them down. Riding fiercely on the stallion, he took down two more bandits and headed back towards the village with the horses. When the remaining thieves realized that they could no longer catch the boy, one of them shot him with a blunderbuss, wounding him in the thigh. The boy, enraged by the injury, tightened his belt around the wound and charged at the remaining bandits again. He knocked them down and drove the horses back to the village. On the way, he reached the foot of a hill, bled profusely, and fell off his horse. Bozaiğyr, neighing back and forth, could not leave the boy's side and eventually headed towards the village. The boy's father, seeing Bozaiğyr, said, "My son is dead; I will search for him no matter what," and set off. Bozaiğyr, not yielding to his owner, rushed towards the boy left in the mountains. When he arrived, he found that the boy was indeed dead. The father was deeply grieved by his son's death, weeping and lamenting, when the stallion began to neigh. Thinking that the thieves had returned, the wealthy man jumped up in fear, only to find a lone traveler with a dombyra hanging by his side. The traveler approached the boy and expressed his condolences to the father. The wealthy man recounted the entire situation to him. The traveler then said: "Ah, my dear animal! If a horse is like this, may your son be like a true man! 'A good horse does not abandon its rider'—this is what it means. Your son had a worthy horse beneath him. A good horse gives wings to its rider, and this situation is exactly that," he said, taking his dombyra and playing a tune. When the mournful melody faded, the boy's father asked, "Comrade! What is the name of this sorrowful tune you played?" The dombyra player replied, "Brother, I played this tune in honor of Bozaiğyr, who is here. I named it 'Bozaiğyr.' If it weren't for this stallion, where would your son be? How would you find his remains?"
