The Bitter Melody of Airauyk
In the Great Juz, there lived a man named Tylak. Tylak the hero was an extraordinary dombra player. It is said that Tylak the hero composed the bitter tune of "Airaulyq" for his two sons, Sheker and Barak.
When Tylak the hero reached the age of eighty and had grown very old, his horses were taken by the enemy. His two sons, Sheker and Barak, left their elderly father at home and chased after the enemy. Along the way, Sheker was shot and killed. Barak, having lost the horses, returned wounded, and outside the house, sitting on the roof, he played the tune he had felt in advance, lamenting the event. By playing this tune for the gathered people, he conveyed the news to his daughter-in-law who was sitting at home. Then the daughter-in-law, sitting at home, said: "This is not a tune my father would play, nor is it a tune for me to hear, God forbid, may it be preserved!" – and she remained unable to leave the house, as the legend goes.
