Munglyk – Zarlyk
Once upon a time, the fierce king, whose sword dripped with blood, had a single daughter who fell in love with a poor young man and was secretly in a relationship with him. When the king found out, he had the young man hanged. After the young man died, the girl gave birth to a boy and a girl before her time. Fearing the gossip of the people, the king sought a way to avoid disgrace and secretly ordered the witch to eliminate the two children. The witch took the newborns to a place unseen by eyes and unheard by ears, and hung the girl facing east and the boy facing west at the top of a tall, lush green tree. The branches of the tree, soaked with the infants' tears, began to wither and dry up. When the two hearts stopped beating, the tree ceased to grow as well. Unable to bear the rumors and false accusations circulating in the land, the king's daughter set out on a journey to find her twins. She left no place unvisited, no mountain unscaled. Days passed without laughter, nights without sleep, months filled with dreams, and years spent in tears. Exhausted and weary, the girl leaned against the base of a tall tree that had completely dried up, its bark peeling and beginning to rot. After falling asleep, she was awakened by a charming melody, a magical tune. Listening closely, she realized it was the tall tree next to her that was "singing." During the day, the girl searched for her twins, and at night, she would come to the base of this "singing" tree, listening to various melodies, finding solace, and resting. One day, wanting to look around, the girl climbed to the top of the tree and accidentally brought it down. However, soon after, a breeze blew, and the "singing" tree began to wail again. Curious about its secret, the girl investigated. The tree was hollow from its thick base to its top. On either side of its slender top, she saw strings stretched from branch to branch. These were remnants left by her two children. The string on the western side was looser, while the string on the eastern side was tightly pulled. Unaware of her twin's death, the girl understood why the tree sang and fashioned a hollow tree of her own, attaching the two strings to it. When she plucked them, the sound resonated close to her heart, soothing her soul. The poor girl named the looser string "Munglik" for her son, as it produced a mournful sound, and the tightly pulled string "Zarlyk" for her daughter, as it sounded sharp and sorrowful. Day and night, she never parted from her creation, playing melodies as she roamed the land in search of her twins...
