Сал күрең
Ел ішінде әйгілі бір күйшінің жүйрік күрең аты бәйгенің алдын бермейтін көрінеді. Қазақ-қырғыз бас қосқан үлкен аста бүкіл сыншылар барлық тұлпарды сыннан өткізе келіп, күрең аттың қасына тоқтайды:
– Қамыс құлақ, қой жұтқыншақ, үңгір сағақ, қуыс қолтық, құлан жал, бәйгені өзге алмас, сен аларсың, күрең сал, – деп бағалапты.
Бірақ ат күзетушінің көзін ала бере қаскөй біреу күрең аттың табанына шеге қағып жібереді.
Күйші шегені суырып тастап, бәрібір бәйгеге қосады. Топ ішінен ақсаңдай басып шыққан күрең атқа қарап жұрт:
– Әй, ақсақ атты бәйгеге қосқан қай ақымақ! – деп шулайды. Күйші ерегескенде үндемейді. Денесі қыза келе аяғының ауырғанын ұмытқан күрең сәйгүліктердің бірінен соң бірінен озып, ақыры бірінші болып келеді.
Бірақ мәреге жеткен соң-ақ, аяғын баса алмай, сал болып, жүруден қалады. Күйшінің күреңнің сау күнін армандап, сал күреңнің жүрісін салып тартқаны екен...

In the land, there is a famous horseman whose swift chestnut horse is said to never lose in races. At a grand feast where Kazakhs and Kyrgyz gather, all the judges put every horse to the test and stop next to the chestnut horse:
– With ears like reeds, a throat like a sheep, a cave-like back, hollow armpits, a mane like a wild ass, you will win the race, chestnut stallion, – they evaluate.
However, as the horse guard looks away, a malicious person drives a nail into the chestnut horse's hoof.
The horseman pulls out the nail and still enters the race. As the chestnut horse limps out from the crowd, people exclaim:
– Hey, which fool entered a limping horse into the race! – they shout. The horseman remains silent in defiance. As his body heats up, he forgets the pain in his leg and overtakes one chestnut stallion after another, ultimately finishing first.
But as soon as he reaches the finish line, he can no longer put his foot down, becoming lame and unable to walk. The horseman had been dreaming of the chestnut's healthy days, pulling the reins of the limping chestnut...
