The melody of the Kazakh and Kalmyk.
In the era of frequent wars between the Kazakhs and the Kalmyks, the resolution of the issues that divided the two nations was not always settled solely by the point of a spear or the edge of a sword. There were times when a persuasive word was more effective than a spear, and a sharp argument was more compelling than a sword. Once, the armies of both sides stood rigidly like a glacier, armed to the teeth, as if a great bloody battle was about to begin. At that moment, an elderly man, who was bent with the burden of caring for his people, stood up and said, "O brethren! Let us resolve our disputes without shedding blood!" and began to speak. At that time, among the clashing armies, there were two exceptionally skilled musicians, each a master in their own right. They decided to hold a musical competition between the two musicians, promising that whichever side won would have their demands fulfilled. Then, in the midst of the densely packed troops, a white felt was spread, and the two musicians were brought forth. The first turn went to the Kazakh musician, who played a powerful piece. The second turn was given to the Kalmyk musician. When the music ended, the darkened armies of both sides had forgotten their intentions to fight.
