Zhetygen
Once upon a time, there was an old man with seven sons who had seen much of life. All seven were said to be strong men who served as protectors of the people and guardians of the land. It was a time of frequent wars and unrest. One day, a messenger arrived in a panic, reporting that enemy troops had crossed into the outskirts of the village. Thus, the seven sons of the old man donned their cold armor and set out to confront the enemy.
The enemy's forces were known to be strong and well-equipped. A bloody battle began between the two sides. The seven young men, having gathered support from within the village, fought shoulder to shoulder, displaying tremendous bravery. They managed to repel the enemy. However, was there ever a war without losses? In this battle, all seven brothers fell heroically.
The sorrowful news reached the old father. The grief of losing all seven of his sons was unbearable for the old man. Unable to find any solace, he was consumed by his anguish. Days and months passed, yet the memories of his sons' deeds continued to haunt him, gnawing at his soul. Eventually, in his despair, the old man crafted an instrument and strung it with seven strings in honor of his seven sons. Then, while reminiscing about each son's character, he composed seven melodies. He cherished those seven melodies like his own children, finding comfort in them for the rest of his life.
Thus, the instrument known as the "Zhetygen" came into existence. The seven melodies composed by the old man in memory of his sons spread throughout the land, known by the names "Karagym," "Kanat Synar," "Ot Soner," "Bakyt Koshkti," "Kun Tutyldy," "Kusa," and "Shamyrkan."
