Kariboz
Once, there was a racehorse named Kariboz. From the time he was a colt until he grew old, Kariboz was known as the horse that never lost a race at any celebration in his tribe. Many hosts of celebrations would give their prizes without racing against Kariboz. As Kariboz aged and became senile, the fame of Saltory began to spread. Wherever Saltory emerged from the starting point, he would quickly surge ahead, often finishing far in front without a trace of dust behind him. When Kariboz reached the age of forty and began to falter, a grand celebration took place, and Saltory was entered into the race. Seeing the racehorses gliding gracefully, swaying and battling with their bridles, Kariboz rushed from the pasture to his owner's house, resting his head on the fence and becoming restless. Thinking, "My sacred horse has gone senile," his owner, unable to bear Kariboz's restlessness, said, "Does he want to race again?" and, after saddling him, sent one of his sons riding after the herd of horses that had gone to the race. As soon as Kariboz burst out of the house, he quickly caught up with the racehorses and joined the pack. After the horses reached the designated place, they turned back. As usual, Saltory shot ahead from the start and did not allow any horse to catch up for a long time. At that moment, Kariboz, while coming up from the middle of the pack, said:
– I do not race in vain,
I have not fallen behind in the race.
Do not fight or compare,
Do not fall behind Saltory, –
As Kariboz's steps quickened, he surged forward. Thus, Kariboz arrived at the finish line before Saltory and, upon arrival, got caught on a knife. The gathered guests at the celebration said, "He was a sacred horse," and they each took a piece of Kariboz's meat.
