I hid and hid.
A wealthy man from the village of Zhalel had two horses taken from his herd, one of which was ridden and the other led, as they chased after the soldiers who had taken Kurmangazy and Auest. According to those who saw it, Kurmangazy was leading the way. Meanwhile, the soldiers, not straying from the path, were stumbling and falling. After three days, based on the information from some herders, Kurmangazy approaches the place where the troop is camped. Following the valley and the ravine, he comes upon the spot where the soldiers are resting. Watching for the moment when the soldiers have fallen into a deep sleep, he ties the two horses down the slope, and quietly, under the moonlight, approaches the soldiers on foot. They have propped their rifles up like goat horns against each other and lie in a deep sleep, completely unaware. Auest, sitting at the edge, has her child in front of her and is leaning forward. Kurmangazy carefully whistles to signal her. Recognizing Kurmangazy's signal, Auest puts her breast in Qazi's mouth to keep him from crying, wraps herself in a black cloak, and quietly makes her way to Kurmangazy. Kurmangazy sends Auest back to where they left the horses, takes one of the rifles, saying "it will be needed," and goes to the horses. Thus, Kurmangazy takes Auest and Qazi away.
The soldiers wake up early in the morning, see that Auest is missing, and start searching around. Not being able to find her, they shrug their shoulders and leave. Upon arriving in Orenburg, they report, "While we were camping in the field, Kurmangazy's wife escaped with her small nursing child. We searched a considerable distance but couldn't find her; she must have been eaten by a wolf." Fearing to involve the rifle in this incident, they say, "We accidentally dropped it in the water while on our way." Kurmangazy, however, returns safely to his village. After telling the soldiers that he had rescued Qazi and Auest, Kurmangazy plays a tune. The name of that tune is "Buqtym-buqtym."
