Aday
Kurmanzha, while traveling, stops at the house of an Aday. Inside the house, there is an old man and an old woman. Without openly stating where he is from, his full name, or where he has been, Kurmanzha stops at mentioning that he is a "God-sent guest," ensuring that he has traveled safely without any disturbances from dogs or birds, and that his horse and carriage are safe. At one point, the hosts go out to tend to their chores. At this moment, Kurmanzha's eyes fall on a yellow dombra adorned with a feather hanging on the wall. The feather on the dombra indicates that its owner is either a girl or a singer. Although he is tired from the long journey, upon seeing the dombra, he wants to hold it, picks it up, plays a couple of notes, and deliberately "tunes it incorrectly" before returning it to its original place. After a while, the old woman and old man, along with a girl around seventeen or eighteen years old, enter. The girl's name is Akmandai. As soon as she enters, without even glancing at the guest sitting in the main room, she immediately takes her dombra from the wall and begins to play. After playing a couple of notes, she notices that the tuning of her dombra has changed and asks, – Who touched this? – looking at her parents. Not knowing what to say, they glance at the musician in front of them, as if to say, "It must be his fault!" Akmandai, without asking again, tunes her dombra back to its original pitch and starts playing a melody. When Akmandai finishes the piece, Kurmanzha looks at her and says, – My dear, you didn’t draw the essence of the melody; you’ve drawn its flaws! Hand me the dombra! – Surprised by such unexpected words, Akmandai, with her eyes fixed on the musician, doesn’t even realize how she offers her dombra to Kurmanzha. The old man and woman are astonished, thinking, "No one has ever spoken about Akmandai's dombra playing in this area; what kind of extraordinary talent has emerged from the depths?" They keep looking at each other. When Kurmanzha finishes playing a piece, the household whispers among themselves, realizing that Akmandai has never faltered in her dombra playing before, and that the level of her performance is exceptionally high. On one hand, they seem to recognize the mysterious guest, and with a warm smile, they say, – My dear, your dombra playing is unlike anything in our area. They say there is a musician named Kurmanzha; are you not him? Your "footwork" is quite remarkable, indeed! – Kurmanzha smiles from under his mustache and replies, – If we are, then we are. – Now, the household insists and encourages Kurmanzha to play the dombra again, hosting him for several days with great honor and respect before sending him off.
