Sarzhaïlau
There are two or three different stories told among the people regarding the birth of Toka's "Sarzhaiyau."
The first is a story related to the feast of the Kyrgyz noble Shabden. A grand feast is held on the majestic slopes of the Alatau, which is equally inhabited by Kazakhs and Kyrgyz, and the notable figures from seven districts of the Kazakh steppe are invited. A group of people led by Saidaly Sary Toka arrives from the Akhtau district of the Arka region. Toka does not come empty-handed; he brings fifty black horses as a tribute to the customs of Shabden's feast. In addition, he brings along a singer, a skilled storyteller, a wrestler who has never touched the ground, a decorated racehorse, and in short, even a gluttonous eater. Thus, a remarkable feast is held that seems to shake the Alatau. During the feast, Toka's horse Taikas wins first place in the grand race, he defeats a wrestler named Baka, and he captivates the Kyrgyz and Kazakh musicians, achieving three victories in total. As a reward for those victories, a thousand som in cash, seven decorated horses covered with carpets, and seven gold hoofs are presented to Toka. At that moment, Toka says: "Do you think this world will lead me to paradise? I have set the hearth; the heads of the seven districts will not gather like this every day, so divide it up carefully!"
After that, as Shabden's feast concludes and the honored Toka returns home with his companions, he plays a tune on horseback, expressing his longing for his homeland: "Oh, how our Arka people are stretching out and settling in the summer pastures at this time!" This is how Toka's famous "Sarzhaiyau" came to be, according to one version of the story among the people. According to this account, the first listeners of the "Sarzhaiyau" melody were the people of Zhetysu.
