Shyngyrau (Version IX)
The emergence of this tune by Ykhlas is likely attributed to a legend told among the people. One version of that legend goes as follows. Once upon a time, there was a mythical bird called Shyngyrau, which had wings as wide as a tent. Shyngyrau would build its nest in a giant tree that grew in a desolate place, unreachable by human feet. In that nest, it would lay eggs and hatch a single chick every two years. When the chick grew into a dark-winged bird and began to mature, the animals of the surrounding area would flee and disappear. The mythical bird would then fly great distances to bring food for its greedy chick. However, despite its efforts, when it finally returned from faraway lands, exhausted and worn out, it would always find its chick missing from the nest. It turned out that a cunning snake, living in that area, would climb the tree and devour the chick whenever Shyngyrau went out in search of food. This event repeated every year. Eventually, Shyngyrau became utterly distressed, suffering greatly, and while bringing food from distant lands, it would weep profusely at the thought of its beloved chick. It is said that Shyngyrau's tears would pour down to the ground like a torrential rain. On another occasion, with its wings spread wide, it would rush to reach its chick. During such times, a fierce storm would arise on the ground, and the wind would howl and blow fiercely. One day, Shyngyrau's wings grew gray with age. While worrying that it would leave this world without offspring, it spotted another egg and hatched a chick. Soon enough, the chick grew into a dark-winged bird with a head as round as a ball. It would gobble up everything in sight, never satisfied with the small animals of the surrounding area. At that time, Shyngyrau, in search of food for its only chick, once again set off on a long journey. In those times, there was a hero named Aidos, who served as a protector for his people, living on the edge of the land, in the path of the wind, and facing enemies. One day, while traveling, Aidos found himself in a desolate desert, fighting against enemies that had surrounded his people. After traveling for days and weeks, his horse succumbed to the heat of the desert and died. As Aidos was about to faint from exhaustion, he spotted a giant tree growing in the middle of the plain. There, the hero took shelter in the shade of the tree to rest. While resting, he heard the sound of a chick chirping from the top of the tree. "What kind of chick is that?" he wondered, and upon looking, he saw a cunning snake coiled around the tree, ready to devour the chick in its nest. At that moment, Aidos drew his sword and struck off the snake's head. The chick then spoke like a human, thanking Aidos and explaining the situation. Just then, a storm suddenly arose, shaking the giant tree. The chick rejoiced and told Aidos that this storm was the wind blowing from its mother Shyngyrau's wings. After a while, it began to rain heavily. The chick became even more joyful, saying that this rain was the tears of its mother, who was approaching. Then the chick warned Aidos, "My mother is coming back from a long journey, tired, worried, and angry. If she sees you when she arrives, it could be your end. Please hide under my wing until she calms down." Aidos followed the chick's advice. As it was said, soon the mythical bird arrived. It landed on the tree with a rustling sound. Seeing that its chick was safe, it was filled with immense joy. It embraced its chick and calmed down. Only then did it become suspicious and ask its chick, "There is the scent of a human!" The chick did not hide the truth and recounted the whole event from beginning to end. Then, the mythical bird raised its wings and said, "Oh, human, I used to think there was no one stronger than me under the sky. I was mistaken. On this earth, there is no creature wiser, stronger, or happier than you. I am at your service; I will not spare any good I can do for you, just tell me your wish." Aidos explained that he was lost in the desert and unable to reach his homeland. Then, the mythical bird took Aidos on its wings and swiftly carried him back to his homeland. Ykhlas, the musician, was moved by this event and played it on his kobyz. Indeed, the beginning of the tune reflects the tumultuous nature of Shyngyrau, who, with the wind blowing from its wings and tears falling like rain, was worried about the safety of its chick. After seeing its chick, the feelings of calm joy and gratitude transformed into a sweet melancholy, resonating in the heart through the kobyz. There are other legends about the "Shyngyrau" tune among the people. One of them tells that Shyngyrau is a large white bird, no bigger than a sparrow. As it was flying south, it encountered an endless river along the way. It continued to fly without turning back, but the shore did not easily allow it to land. Eventually, its wings grew tired, and it became exhausted. With no place to rest its wings and catch its breath, it cried out in despair. The endless river appeared to be a death that would swallow it. Just as it was about to fall into the water, it spotted a giant fish swimming on the surface. There, it folded its wings, landed on the fish's back, and caught its breath, then safely flew to the other side of the river. However, it is said that the moment Shyngyrau's wings grew tired and it cried out on the river was turned into a tune by a musician. The next legend of "Shyngyrau" is also about a bird. It is said that Shyngyrau built its nest on a high peak. One day, while bringing food to its hungry chicks in the nest, it found that the peak was shrouded in clouds. In a hurry to reach the nest, Shyngyrau crashed into a cliff and fell to the ground. When it tried to rise and fly again, its wing was broken, and it was unable to do so. At that moment, the cries of the hungry chicks at the top of the cliff reached Shyngyrau's ears. In despair, tears flowed from Shyngyrau's eyes. This tragic event was captured in the language of the tune.
