Asan Qayğı (Version IV)
Asan Kaygy, in his youth, goes out to hunt. While walking in the steppe, a fox runs in front of him. Chasing that fox, he catches it just as the sun is about to set. As he ties it to his saddle and continues on, he sees a lone yurt ahead. When he calls out to see who is there, a girl comes out. Upon seeing Asan Kaygy, she pulls in her intestines and stomach three times. Hearing his daughter pull in her stomach, the father sitting inside the yurt asks: – My dear, why are you pulling in your stomach? – he asks his daughter. The girl replies: – How can I not pull in my stomach when there is a man's outer garment, a horse's, an animal's, and a tree's outer garment outside? Four outer garments are standing in one place, – she said. The girl dismounts Asan Kaygy and takes him into the yurt. After that, she prepares tea and starts cooking for the young man. Because the girl is very beautiful and charming, Asan Kaygy takes a liking to her. He fell for her. That day, while staying overnight, the next morning Asan Kaygy says to the girl: – I have no wife, so you should marry me, – he said. The girl replied: – Alright, I will marry you, – she said. He intended to take the girl. The girl said to Asan Kaygy: – You come back to me after two days, on the third day, I will go with you, – she said. They made a promise, and Asan Kaygy rode off on his horse the next day. As he was riding along, he came to another yurt at one point. When he entered the yurt, he saw a single girl sitting inside. This girl was very beautiful, even more so than the previous girl. He asked her: – Will you marry me? – he said. The girl replied: – I will marry you, – she said. – If you marry me, I will take you away today, come with me! – he said. – Alright, I will follow you, but I have a condition to set, – she said. – Alright, tell me your condition! – he said. – I will not speak for six months, do not make me speak, if you make me speak, I will not be yours, – she said. According to the promise, Asan Kaygy took the girl to his home. After that, they held a celebration for several days. Many people gathered, and the women came to the girl. They sat and chatted. Until dawn, the girl did not speak. For two or three days, the girl remained silent. This girl was very beautiful. The people sitting around said: “Oh my, this girl is mute. This girl must have married Asan Kaygy for his beauty,” they said. One day, since the girl remained completely silent, Asan Kaygy called fortune-tellers to have her fortune told. The fortune-teller said: – This girl is not mute; if you take her around the market and show her many people, she will speak when you take her to the edge of the market, – he said. They took the girl to the edge of the market, and as they were walking, the girl regained her speech and said: – Hey, Asan Kaygy, we made a condition for six months, five months have passed. Only one month remains. Nevertheless, you have forced me to speak in the end. I am no longer yours; may your life be filled with sorrow! – and the girl went on her way. The people around tried to catch up with the girl, but they could not reach her, and they all fell behind. In the end, Asan Kaygy, after several days of searching and not being able to find her, returned home in sorrow. This is the reason why Asan Kaygy is called "Asan Kaygy."
