About Zhirenshe
When Khan Az Zhanibek was traveling with several of his ministers and companions, they came across a craftsman who was building a house. The Khan asked the craftsman:
– You are skilled; what do you earn for a day’s work? The craftsman replied:
– I earn one dilda a day.
– If you earn one dilda a day, why have you not become rich until now?
The craftsman said:
– Let me explain why I am not rich. I divide my earnings into four parts. I give one part to my debts, one part I lend, one part I throw away, and I keep only one part for myself to eat and drink. How can I become rich then? The Khan asked those around him:
– Did you understand what he meant?
– No, we did not understand, they replied.
– Now, let’s not dismount and go directly to ask Zhirenshe. If he explains it well, will you still be upset that he is favored over us?
– No, we will not be upset, they said, and they went to the orator without turning anywhere. While still on horseback, they asked:
– Orator, where are you going?
– Here I am. What is it, my lord!
Khan Az Zhanibek said:
– Today we saw a craftsman building a house and asked him, “What do you earn?” He replied, “I earn one dilda a day.” I asked, “If you earn one dilda a day, why have you not become rich until now?” He said, “Let me explain why I am not rich. I divide my earnings into four parts: I give one to my debts, one I lend, one I throw away, and I keep one for myself to eat and drink.” It is clear what he keeps for himself; what are his debts? What are his loans? What does he mean by throwing it away? Please explain it to me, he said, and the orator replied:
– My lord, that craftsman has elderly parents. He has a grown son and a daughter who is of marriageable age. He divides his earnings into four parts and gives one part to his parents. When he was young, his parents took care of him; now that he has grown, he takes care of his parents. When he says, “I will pay my debts,” he means he will take care of his parents. When he says, “I lend,” he means he gives it to his son. “If he is alive, he will return it on the day,” he means. When he says, “I throw it away,” he means he has a daughter whom he is preparing to marry off. The dowry for the daughter is like throwing something into the water. The remaining part is barely enough for his own sustenance. After taking care of all this, what remains for him? How can he become rich? If he has nothing but his ears, then how can he not become rich? he concluded.
In every khan's time, there was a wise man, and in the time of Khan Az Zhanibek, that wise man was Zhirenshe. It is unknown from which of the three hundred he came. Khan Az Zhanibek was the khan during his time. He comes from the lineage of Shynkyz, from the noble lineage. Check the history to see in which century this khan lived.
