Kazybek's judgment about a hero (Version II)
A man from the Great Juz Uysyn came to Tole Bi and said: – No one among the three hundred has ridden such a horse. Although I am very interested in horses, the wealth and nobility of the horse owner are no less than mine; I am not interested in worldly goods. He does not give what I ask for. I have a thought to ride this horse if I can get it, dear Bi, – he said. Tole Bi replied: – As long as I am alive, you will achieve that wish. The Little Juz is inviting you to a feast. Your nobleman will likely come to this feast as well. Find a way to approach him and consider your situation! Who else would speak of justice if I do not? – he said. When the children of the three hundred gathered for the feast, the wealthy man who longed for the horse prepared three or four young men and sent them to look for the horse he knew. The horse owner also came to the feast, and when he dismounted and tied his horse, those young men said: – Who is the owner of this blue stallion? We recognize the saddle you are wearing; this saddle was lost along with our horse, which is as good as a widow, – and without hesitation, they took the horse with its saddle. The horse owner, whose soul was tormented by such unjust humiliation, came to Tole Bi and explained his situation. Tole Bi looked at the people of his Great Juz and said: – Take your recognized saddle and return the horse to its owner. Isn’t there a horse that goes back and forth between the two great nations? Do not pursue your lost horse! – he said. The Little Juz, very angry, thought about starting a fight, but if he did, the feast and his own people would be disrupted; if he didn’t, the blatant injustice would burn him. In the end, at the conclusion of the feast, Mame Bi sent a messenger to Kazibek: – What will the relative of Keldibek say about this? – Kazibek stopped the people who were about to disperse, seated the Great Juz and the Little Juz on two sides, and placed the saddle in the middle. Then, without saying anything to either side, he came to the saddle and struck it with a rod, saying: – Your side is a willow, your edge is a cloth, You are a saddle that Kalmbet has struck. The Great Juz and the Little Juz Will ride back to the same saddle. If this continues, oh Tole, One day you will perish. If you speak unjustly, What will you say before God? This saddle will return to its place, If this saddle does not return, You will burn from Kalmen’s wrath, – he said. The Great Juz side did not understand this hint properly: – What did Kazibek say? – they asked Tole Bi. Then Tole Bi replied: – What could he have said? Keldibek’s Sary does not remain silent; if he speaks, he does not back down from the argument. If the Middle Juz and the Little Juz unite against us, what will remain of us? Take the saddle back to its place, – he said.
