About Tіlenshі
Kaz Dauvysty Qazybek Qontajy gifted that girl to his son Bekbolat. Later, they had one son and one daughter. Bekbolat, who had nine sons from his first wife, named the aforementioned son Tilenşi. One day, the Khan of the Middle Horde, Abilai, came to Bekbolat's place with many followers. This was because Kaz Dauvysty Qazybek had been influential to Khan Abilai during his lifetime. However, after Qazybek passed away in 1764, the tension between the Shanshar abys family and the Qazybek lineage intensified. When Abilai's subjects killed Botakan innocently and captured Janai, three thousand Argin rose up in rebellion, fueled by their anger. The Khan, unable to endure, paid compensation for the death and released the captives, barely escaping. After that, one of Bekbolat's many sons stole a herd of Abilai's horses, and Bekbolat defended the thief eloquently in this fierce dispute, paying nine fines to the Khan. The root of Abilai Khan's visit to Bekbolat today was the desire for peace and reconciliation. After the feast, the Khan, observing the situation, began to probe Bekbolat. Abilai Khan, in a warm mood, said: – You have come here without tarnishing the sacred spirit of your father Qazybek, and you have earned the title of just Khan, Beke! You have aged. Now we have come to appoint one of your ten sons as Khan in your place. Which one will you bless? Bekbolat, suddenly taken aback, closed his eyes and stroked his beard. When he thought of naming one of his nine sons from his first wife, they were all timid; if he thought of naming the son of the second wife, he feared the strong first wife. The daughter of the second wife immediately noticed this deadlock and, lifting the curtain, said: – Oh my, the grandeur of my grandfather the Khan, his waves, and his fear of my grandmother! If my grandfather was not afraid of my grandmother, what is there to say? If it is said he was born of a second wife, what is there that our Tilenşijan cannot rule the people? The Khan opened his eyes and said: – You are right, my dear! I had hope in that boy. Qontajy Khan cunningly gave us your mother. Only if he does not take after his maternal uncle, – and he kept glancing at the first wife. He immediately spoke to the first wife: – Why, grandfather – the head, the child – the neck. He takes after my grandfather Qaz. Indeed, I have hope in that boy too. "The foal of a thoroughbred horse grazes little and plays a lot, while a child becomes a person by playing little and thinking a lot," they used to say. You had a gray horse, and Tilenşi had two colts. In my dream, those two were lying in the meadow, grazing a lot and playing little. If they do not change in the pasture, – and he stopped. Abilai Khan immediately weighed Bekbolat and the first wife's opinions and the daughter's proposal and called for Tilenşi. By the Khan's hint, Janai the poet found the boy among the shepherds who were herding sheep. – How can you, being the grandson of my grandfather Qaz, be wallowing in the mud? To Janai's unexpected question, fifteen-year-old Tilenşi replied without hesitation. – There are two meanings to my herding sheep. First, many litigants come to my grandfather the Khan every day. He senses their secrets as soon as they step over the threshold; if they are wealthy, he welcomes them, and if they are poor, he says, "Speak your complaint while sitting at the doorstep!" Oh, if only my grandfather would die or while alive, if power were to come into my hands, I would make everyone come to me regardless of their wealth or poverty. When they speak the truth without hesitation, I would give a fair judgment! Secondly, I am alone from my father – ten, and from my mother – one. There is not a single one of my nine brothers who would come to my aid. If tomorrow the disputes of the people come to me for judgment, would these shepherds, fearing my grandfather, dare to express their urgent interests? I want to make the people accustomed to me from the very beginning, – said Tilenşi. Janai, inwardly pleased, said: – Abilai Khan is looking for you; come on, let’s mount and get a blessing from your grandfather, – he said. Tilenşi refused: – Am I some game to be carried on the back and tied to the saddle? – and came home on foot. After hearing the whole story, Bekbolat gave his son a blessing in front of the Khan, and Tilenşi was appointed as Khan.
