The poem by Bukhar Zhyrau that put a stop to the Russians' attack.
The son of Karzhas Kalqaman Batyr was an elder named Bukhar Zhyrau. The critics of his time referred to him as the "voice of the saint." He spoke with a melodious voice, and there were no plain words; everything that came out of his mouth was in verse. Bukhar said to Khan Abilay: – I have guided seven khans before you, and just yesterday I accompanied the tall and strong Esim Khan. You are not even worthy of being his shadow, – he said. When Khan Abilay was about to set off somewhere, he would summon Bukhar and ask for the auspicious signs of the moon and sun, requesting him to read the omens. Then Bukhar would say: – A yellow bull will come and stand under your banner, and then charge towards that direction, – he would say. If they set off in the direction he indicated, they would charge and crush their enemies. If the yellow bull came and lay down under his banner, stretching its neck, they would not set off. At that time, there was no sign of the Russians in Saryarka. Sending greetings to Khan Abilay, they would respectfully say: – Do not let the people under your care be disturbed by us, – they would say. The merchants who traveled back and forth would bring gifts to Abilay and take letters stating that no one would harm them. Poets of Abilay's time said: Abilay's grandfather – Abilfeyis, The son of the khan is not to be laid on mere meat. Taking from the bearded Russians, Did Abilay rise with two horns? – they said. When he requested, "I will send a merchant to Almaty, Aiyagoz, let him pass!" Imamqostan came out, and the road along the Irtysh to Semey became a main road by Abilay's command of "Let him go that way!" For this reason, the road across the Irtysh is called "Abilay's road." When asking for a fairground, they gave him Kyzylzhar from the banks of the Esil. It was the wintering place of the wealthy Atygay Dauletkeldi. After that, Dauletkeldi said: – They gave my land to the Russians, – and he complained, – I will move to Zhidelebaysyn, – and he left. We met and spoke with his descendants in Tashkent; they had grown up among the Konyrat tribe. In Kyzylzhar, there was a house built called "Abilay's white house." He would persuade the bearded infidels to follow his lead, and during his reign, he gathered the wise leaders of the three zhuzs to seek advice: – They said all the yellow enemies are foes, but with their tiny heads hunched, and their backs bent like goats, they may seem weak to the eye, yet their cunning is profoundly deep. One day, when the Saryarka is envious, the red-bellied will not let a young boy see the sun. What if we gather the Alesh-crying Kazakhs and set off, calling them "tail-less," and wipe them out? – he said. At that moment, none of the wise men could respond to the khan, but Bukhar, at the age of ninety-three, spoke eloquently to the khan.
