Ablai also held Eskeldi in high regard. One day, sensing the strength and commotion of the Kalmyk invaders' warriors, Ablai instructed his soldiers: "We are about to be cornered; gather all the able-bodied men. There is a man in this area, a hero, a marksman, sharp-witted, eloquent, a leader of the people, named Eskeldi from the Great Zhuz Jalayir. Bring that hero here and make him the commander of a detachment," he ordered. It was also the time when Eskeldi was capable of breaking iron and could shatter fortresses when he was roused. After Ablai's invitation, Eskeldi immediately set out to confront the overwhelming enemy forces. He struck fiercely at the dense ranks of the Kalmyk vanguard, smashing their fortifications and achieving victory. The defenders led by Eskeldi also stood against the formidable forces of the Dzungars along the Ili and Bakanas rivers, pushing the villains back and liberating their land and people. Joining the warrior group of Batyr Qabanbay, they dealt a heavy blow to the Dzungars, not allowing them to recover, driving them across the border. It is remembered in the chronicles that the bravery of the soldiers led by Eskeldi was recognized in defeating the Dzungar invaders on the northern shore of the Ili River and along the shores of Lake Balkhash, as well as in the battles at Tekeli Mountain and Kapal Ridge.
