In Kazakh, there are three famous Janibeks: the khan of the Nogai people – Azh-Janibek, one of Abilay's commanders – Shakshak Janibek, and Er Janibek. The lineage of the latter Janibek is Kerei. His father, a man named Qoshqar, had a son born on the night Shakshak Janibek stayed at their home, and as a ritual, he named the child Janibek. Under the leadership of this Janibek, the Abak clan of Kerei... engaged in a skirmish with the soldiers of the Zaysan fortress and crossed over into Mongolia. Therefore, they are called "Bodamsyz Kerei." Currently, their descendants occupy three regions of Mongolia. After Janibek settled the Abak clan in Mongolia, he was on his way to relocate the Jobalay Kereis, who inhabit the Shubartau district of present-day Semey region, when he fell ill and passed away on the way. His grave is located along the Shara River in the Zharma district of Semey region, at a place called "Orta Bulak." What I want to say is about the proverb "The worth of a man is one horse's worth of tobacco," which arose in connection with the Kereis' march to Mongolia led by Janibek. On their way to Zaysan, the Kereis stop at the Kalba mountain for about a week. It was also the time when the Matay clan, which had displaced the Tobyk clan from the Shinggis mountain, had newly settled in Kalba. The Matays, believing that the Kereis would completely settle in Kalba, attacked one of the Kerei villages to intimidate them. During the skirmish, one person from the Kerei side was killed. Upon hearing this, Janibek gathered all the villages together and prepared to raid the Matay people with armed forces. Although they clashed, the Matays were greatly alarmed. They secretly sent spies to the Kerei villages to gather information about the character of the hero Janibek. According to the information brought back by the spies, Janibek is a sharpshooter who can shoot a fly off a person's cheek with a spear. He has only one weakness: his great fondness for tobacco. Knowing this, the Matays devised a plan. They had a craftsman make a silver snuffbox that could hold the value of five horses. They filled it with brown curly tobacco soaked in mint water. Then, the Matays sent a young eloquent man named Janibek as an envoy to the hero Janibek. The young envoy came to Janibek and conveyed the Matays' proposal. The Matays said, "The worth of a man is to be compensated with one hundred horses." The hero did not flinch at this offer. He sat in silence. At that moment, the envoy pulled out the silver snuffbox from his bosom and placed it before the hero. The hero, intrigued, picked up the snuffbox, took a pinch of tobacco, and put it in his mouth. After a while, his frown began to lift. Finally, he said: - It cannot be, it cannot be, a male sheep is a sacrifice. "The bottom of the water is discerned by the mud, the bottom of the dispute is discerned by the girl." Let the village that suffered losses negotiate and give a girl! – And he completely forgave the blood money for the young man who was killed in battle.
