A Story About Zhirenshe
When Jirenche went on a journey, his wife passed away. Upon returning from his journey, he first met with Khan Zhanibek, who had already heard the news. He conveyed it in the following manner:
– What happens if a father dies, my wise one?
– You could say the mountain has fallen.
– What happens if a mother dies, my wise one? – he asked.
– It would be like a spring brook has dried up.
– What happens if an elder brother dies, my wise one? – he inquired.
– It would be like the right wing has been broken.
– What happens if a younger brother dies, my wise one? – he asked.
– It would be like the left wing has been broken too, – he replied.
– What happens if a sister or a female relative dies, my wise one? – he asked.
– It would be like the long pasture has been shortened.
– What happens if a wife dies, my wise one? – he asked, while folding his whip in two, sitting up straight, and leaning on his whip. The handle of the whip snapped with a crack and broke.
– If a wife dies, it would be like the handle of the whip has broken, – he said. – When the handle of the whip breaks and the wife dies, it means the good oil has spoiled. I was about to say it has spoiled like good oil, – when Zhanibek Khan responded:
– My wise one, if that is the case, then it seems your situation is like that of your whip's handle breaking! – he said. This is how it was conveyed, they say. How would I know? I was not there; perhaps my ears are not to blame for what I heard...
